Last week installed a Howdens Kitchen for a good friend at costs price. All the trades got paid (inc me) their normal daily rate.
Remove floor to ceiling tiles on all walls.
Plaster board ceiling (was artex) and plaster all walls/ceiling.
18x12 room with cabinets installed on three sides (wall 2 sides)
tap, sink, gas hob, oven and extractor all supplied with kitchen
Downlights, 3 extra sockets and under cupboard lights
Floor and wall tiles supplied and fitted.
Removed old floor mounted boiler and supplied and fitted new boiler (Worcester-Bosch).
Price.....£5600 inc all parts and materials. This included Corgi Heating Engineer, Electricians (Part P sign off), Plasterers, tiler and another fitters labour only so they just needed to turn up with tool boxes. All parts where supplied by me.
He did moan he had to paint the kitchen himselfHad been getting quotes for around 10k for kitchen and 2k to swap boiler. Normally each trade would add a little onto parts and labour to allow for problems and picking up the stuff so this is where the saving came from.

a good price.
mine is bare brick, ive alreadt stripped the walls of plaster and tiles and the ceilings have also been taken off. Electrics will be done by myself and signed off, gas by a corgi registered mate FOC.
How much did the units and applicances cost?0 -
I've just mentioned them in another thread, but it can't hurt here too.
If you're looking for the quality that a poster above mentioned, check out National Kitchens. Their units are rigid, colour matched, 19mm, solid backed and topped as well as the soft close doors and drawers.
Top that off with a price not dissimilar to B&Q pricing and you get a helluva lot of kitchen for the money

Howdens is a division of MFI, not a supplier. Most people overlook opportunity as it comes dressed in overalls, and looks like hard work.0 -

Actually I'm afraid you're both wrong.
What was MFI group was split last year and the high street stores were sold to MEP. Mep also bought Hygena and Schreiber so technically speaking, MFI supply Howdens.
My GF is a kitchen designer for MFI and can beat any Howdens quote that people can prove.
I'm not saying Howdens can't do a fantastic deal, but sometimes a designer at MFI can do more to achieve the sale, providing that their manager can give them that authority to do so.0 -
MFI was two major divisions.
manufacturing, and retail. Retail has retained the mfi name, but is owned by a venture capital firm.
One of the old manufacturing divisions was Howdens, this has been retained by the old manufacturing division which is now called Galiform.
Even 3 grand is a lot for chipboard I think. Most people overlook opportunity as it comes dressed in overalls, and looks like hard work.0 -
White Space Furniture
The Group’s supply business, White Space, has established itself as, and will continue to be, an effective manufacturing and sourcing operation, with strong supplier relationships. In the short term, it will provide manufactured and sourced products to the retail business, trading as MFI, sold by the Group in October 2006 and Hygena Cuisines, sold by the Group in February 2006. However, once these interim contracts come to an end, Howdens will become the sole customer of White Space. The Board believes that this will allow White Space to realise scale benefits and cost savings through its supply chain by supplying a single customer with fewer product ranges but higher volumes, and that this in time will provide Howdens with a key competitive advantage. Most people overlook opportunity as it comes dressed in overalls, and looks like hard work.0 -

This may sound a lil cheeky,I have been quoted £7400.00 from MFI for the Space white kitchen, would your GF be able to get a better price?
Many Thanks:D0 -
Hi,
I've been looking at Howdens kitchens and have booked an appointment for them to come and measure up next week. Can anyone tell me anything about prices for the Hampton kitchen? My builder gave me a brochure with all of the kitchens in and i haven't got a price list - just wanting a rough idea. Any help appreciated!0
