marks and spencers credit vouchers

Have just had a request turned down by M&S to pay out or renew a credt voucher which expired on 22 June just passed. Explained that my wife is having alzheimer and brain epilepsy tests whereby she forgets things, but to absolutely no avail. The value is £75.50. We are pensioners and I do all of the food shopping but my wife buys a lot of clothes there (90% of which I have to take back) hence the credit voucher which I found all crumpled up at the bottom of her bag. I have tried googling this to see other people's experiences but apart from one contributor on this site...nothing! I simply cannot believe that very many other people are not having problems. I feel sure that a goodly number of these things get lost. As it stands I feel that M&S owe me money and I intend to write to the chairman, but I do not have any faith that I will have success.
Any advice would be most welcome.

My advice would be to write to their head office, be straightforward, honest and unemotional. (Don't say things like "you owe us money", your wife's condition although sad, is not their fault). Ask politely if, given the circumstances, they could bend their rules this time.
They have a reputation for being fair and are an established firm, so you need to avail yourself of their goodwill. And as the banner <== says, be nice.0 -
Was it a Credit Receipt or Voucher? The receipts are valid for a year and the vouchers stopped being accepted in 2009.
From their website:

What is the credit receipt and credit voucher policy?
Credit Receipts are valid for 12 months from the date of issue – the expiry date is clearly printed on the receipt. Please treat your credit receipt with care. We cannot replace or extend lost, damaged or expired credit receipts.
Credit Vouchers We stopped issuing credit vouchers in June 2006. We continued to accept them as payment in April 2009 to give customers time to use any remaining vouchers and we placed notices in stores to remind customers to use them by the deadline. Unfortunately, we can no longer accept credit vouchers as payment.0 -
I assume it must be a credit receipt, not a credit voucher as the vouchers were not issued in 50p denominations.0

Hi,
Yes it is a credit voucher ..and,yes, I intend to write in the vein suggested. Many thanks for your input everyone, Dave0 -
That's interesting! Mine is entitled credit voucher and it is in the form of a receipt. I was told it lasts for one year and one day.0

As said before, send it to their Head Office with a letter explaining your wife's condition. They couldn't accept it instore as, if it is out of date, there would be no way of putting it through the till. I'm certain Head Office will sort something out for you. Good luck.0
