International Numbers Phoning

Wow I must be having an angry day (or too much time) this is my second vent. For the past month I have been receiving calls showing up on caller ID as International or Out Of Area. They call a couple of times a week. Usually in the afternoon and evening. Can be very annoying if the baby has just gone down!
Usually they are not even decent enough to have anybody ready to take the call and it goes dead. On the odd occasion they do they ask me if I am Mr Hill which I am not I reply no they just hang up, drives me mad.
Got a call today International on the caller ID baby fast asleep so I answered it quick. Surprise surprise a voice on the other end of the line. A pleasant Indian sounding lady with very good English. So I thought I would try and find out who they are, maybe you can help?
Conversation goes like this:

Her> are you Mr Hill
Me> Yes
Her> is your telephone number ***********
Me> Yes you have just rung it
Her> Is your address 33*******,*****
Me> Yes (it’s not but now I know who they are after)
Her> I’m not trying to sell you anything I am just doing research on behalf of British Consumers.
Me> That’s good I don’t need anything.
Her> Do you live in a Mortgaged, rented, council or owned outright house
Me> Yes
Her > Which one a Mortgaged, rented, council or owned outright house
Me> Yes
Her> but which one of those options
Me > It’s a nice brick house
Her> yes but is it Mortgaged, rented, council or owned outright house
Me> I don’t know I’m just squatting here
Her> Ok I’ll put it down as tenanted
Me>Yes
Her> So I know I am talking to the right person can you give me your date of birth.
Me> I’m sorry I don’t think we know each other well enough for me to give you my date of birth
Her> Can you give me your age range then?
Me> Yes
Her> what is it?
Me> I’m between 0 and 150
Her> your in your 50’s?
Me> I’m sorry this is sounding like a date how old are you?
Her.> I just have a few more questions
Me> I asked you one how old are you?
Her> Slightly flustered I’m 32
Me> That’s good I like younger women, Are you at home or in an office?
Her> I’m in a call centre, Do you have satellite or cable who is your provider?
Me> I have both I like to have the option, How tall are you?
Her> Sorry?
Me> How tall are you I just want to know if we are height compatible.
Her> I am 5’6”tall.
Me> I’m enjoying this conversation who asked you to call me was it the Indian dating site I signed up for?
Her> No I am calling on behalf of British Consumers for a Data Management firm.
Me> Oh so you don’t wish to be the pickle on my poppadom?
Her> Sorry?
Her> are you employed, self employed, retired, unemployed?
Me> I’m retired, so have lots of time, I could maybe come and visit and we could have a drink?
Her> I have just a few more questions...
Me> Me too Are you wearing underwear?
Her> Hangs Up

Well it tickled me so anybody know whose put them up as British Consumers and obviously using outside of the UK to get round TPS.?

I’m guessing somebody has signed up for something and given them a made up number which happens to be mine, B8st*rds

Just tell them to stop calling you or that the person doesn't live there, and put the phone down. If they call back, ask them to wait while you find a pen, and then go have a cup of tea. Let them run up their phone bills.
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

I've asked them to stop calling they just hang up, mention the TPS they hang up. Say you're not the person they are looking for they hang up.
all this would be fine if they then didn't ring the next day.
They seem to be trying to get lifestyle data to enable them to sell it on to marketing companies.
Telling them to wait whilst I get a pen? at no point do they ask anything that would require a pen to be got.

The fun part is seeing how long you can keep them on the phone, and what information you can get out of them.
Until you can find out who has "employed" them there is no way to get them to stop

I have these calls and sorry for going in to another rant, no babies here just have to stop work which upsets the rythm needlessly.

What i want to know is how do you stop these unwanted calls?

Afraid above advice dont work been through all that numerous times when i was polite, they constantly phone back daily.
I have lost my rag the last 5 times with same person on other end. Sometimes shows International but one last week showed a load of 0000000000 eh!
The point being my bank cannot phone me yet these unwanted get away with it.

Del like your style :T but i aint tactfull upon seeing International or any other phone sales.
    Are you Mr ......
    "What you selling?"
    Are you Mr .......
"Whats it to do with you?"

Or after what you sellings next response i recognise its the same individual, then all hell breaks loose. Prior to that around 30 calls ago could be a lot more, demanded be taken off database. Enoughs enough and thats only one caller.

I am careful who and what i sign up for. Or thought i was.

Well it wasted 25 minutes of their time and gave them no useful data to sell onto anybody else. I just wish they didn't have my number on their automated dialer. Or if i could find out who had "employed" them so I could call them and waste some of their time properly :)

Tell them that you're not the person they want and ask if you can take a message and he'll call them back. They'll usually tell you that you can't do that for DPA reasons and hang up

When it gets really bad (I'll get weeks where it's a couple of times a day) I set the answer phone to kick in after 1 ring - anyone I want to speak to, I can pick up.
  • if you get a few calls try some of the tactics from this thread

  • I was called today by a caller claiming to be calling on behalf of "British Consumers" (you would think these dumb Indian call centres could at least make up a credible sounding name rather than one that is immediately absurd) that showed Out of Area on one of my phones and then Unavailable on my other phone with more accurate caller display data.

They wanted to know my age, what kind of television system I had, whether my property was mortgaged and all that stuff.

Whenever I asked what they were selling or who they were going to sell my data to of ir they weren't the same mob previously calling themselves the Lifestyle Research Centre or Consumer Resesearch Centre who then resold my contact details to various dodgy uk scammers like telephone will writing companies and cold call £5,000 in rental burglar alarm firms they just ignored my question.

The odd thing is that when I asked the caller where they were they said Manchester and of course the call showed as Unavailable and not International with no number as most Indian call centres normally do. Also the caller didn't have a regular Indian accent. It had very distinctly Eastern European tones which I am quite tuned in to as a Be Unlimited customer with customer support in Hungary. But it could just be an Indian who had spent a lot of time in Eastern Europe and developed his English with that accent.

He then said suddenly do you want to speak to my supervisor about this so I said yes and whereupon there was silence and then somebody came back on the line and I said "hello, hello" at which point I was cut off.

I'm sure this is the same illegal data harvesting and resale mob as The Lifestyle Research Centre and Consumer Research Centre who I foolishly answered a few of the questions from before and who then resold my details even though I hung up before ever reaching the end of that call.

what you need is a call barring phone, due to link issues I will have to explain..

    goto 'digital spy' forum

when logged in, search for 'call barring'

you should see the right subject..

there are good phones that will do this..

select 'call barring' and 'night mode' - then you can see what model has it, and go to your local store for the right model depending on price..

NOTE: double check the features, I saw some mistakes on the site..

'call barring' works by just giving a 'busy' tone,

'night mode' will make sure the phone does not ring at times you set - it will go to voice mail, so no worries!!
