I keep getting text messages from various mobile numbers asking me to claim for a car accident i haven't had.

If you have any number blocking software on your phone, i use block'em from the Android Market, as soon as i get a text or call from a number not in my phonebook the app ask me if i want to block it.

just a heads up on the numbers that keep testing me:

07519 358932
07548 037472
07594 228430
07934 276973

Be good we if we could get a list together here of numbers to block

I suspect that you are wasting your time. The text messages appear to be sent to random numbers. They are sent from pay-as-go mobiles that are loaded with some unlimited text deal and then trashed when it runs out or is blocked by the network. It then starts again with a different one. The next batch will come from different numbers.

I've tried responding with CLAIM, YES, or INFO and these result in calls from various companies. Some have called from recognisable numbers and have credible websites but all are clear that they are being passed the leads by another company who's name they can't tell me unless I make a formal application to their head office. I'll passed all the data on to the Information Commissioners Office as a formal complaint, but they appear to be many weeks behind with processing the complaints. All my numbers are registered with the TPS.

I wouldn't hold your breath but it high time someone did something about this as it is becoming a plague.
