I know it's the thought that count's but ...

I am so annoyed with Sil regarding christmas presents
She has 3 children and every Christmas I ask/get told what Children would like for Christmas each gift is normally around the £15 mark so totalling £45 ,

I have never thought anything about this until I had a little one last year and she sent a toy that was prob worth about £5,fair enough he was only a baby last christmas and didn't read too much into it ,
She has done it again this year I am by no means mean and don't mind buying the children the toys they would like but this is really starting to bug me

What shall I do next year

  • give her kids a fiver each in a card she will get the mesage im sure :D
  • Why not suggest a gift for her to buy your child that is of a similar value to what you are buying for hers?

I did this year but still bought rubbish
  • Does your SIL pass unwanted hand-me-downs on to you? My SIL had three children and the youngest was 3 when my first was born. She passed no end on to me which she could have sold but she refused any payment from us. As she said, much of it had been bought by the childrens' grandmother anyway. Because of this we always spent a bit more on her childen than she did on ours. This went on till they went to uni.

They're missing out because they get a present worth £5 instead of £15?

Like you say, it's the thought that counts...

I spent 2-3 times what my sister did on each of my children this year, because I could afford to, maybe that is the same situation. She realises now I don't do it to brag, I spend what I can afford and she spends what she can. Doesn't bother me. Giving a gift of whatever amount is because you want to. I don't go off money, I go off what matters. Person I spent the most on by far this year was my Dad, over £400 on a laptop, because I know he needs it, can't afford it and does a lot for me. Not because of what it is and how much it was.
One day I might be more organised...........
