I volunteer ata school, and I've never been asked to have a CRB check, I have always thought that I should have, I've been CRB checked in my other jobs.0

I'm a discharged bankrupt and am able to be a school governor again if i wanted (but I don't as I was one for years, went bankrupt and suddenly that made my contribution invalid despite me still being me so they can scream all they want for new governors before I step forward again) The only time I've ever declared the fact was setting up our friends group for the school (a bit like a PTA) when it came to chosing a secretary- I volunteered the information so they didn't chose me.
My sister is a bankrupt and is a primary school teacher- they must know as she had to be paid by check whilst she got a new bank account.
I tend to take the approach that everyone has skeletons in their closet and if my worst one is a financial one then I can hold my head higher than many people I walk amoungst. Please don't see it as something to be ashamed as, she it as a necessary step you took at the time to make more positive choices in the future.:j BSC #101 :j0 -
Probably a stupid question i want to help out at my childs school and need a crb check.....i'm worried as many years ago i was made bankrupt and i'd be ashamed if anyone ever found out, so will it show up? being bankrupt doesn't make me a criminal does it?
As others have said, bankrupcy is a civil matter and will not show up on a CRB check. You are not a criminal: these things happen and society allows people to make a fresh start. I'm sorry, though, that you feel ashamed about something that happenned many years ago. It must be difficult for you to carry that around with you.
Great that you are volunteering your time at your child's school.
Best wishes

thanks for all the replies, yes it was a very long time ago, i was young and stupid....have a comfortable life now thanks to my husbands business and people that know me would be very shocked. I do have this guilt that hangs over me still. I shall go ahead with volunteering at the school, looking forward to it actually after many years at home raising children.0

You do get a copy, but so does the school, and the school's copy MAY have more information on it than is on yours. The CRB check is applied for by the organisation that need it, but is sent to you and they don't get a copy. So you can let it go ahead and decide not to show it to them if anything comes up that you don't want them to know, though obviously you'd be unable to help out if that was the case.

I see. Thanks for correcting me. I have 6 active checks and each time the organisation has asked to see my copy. I wonder why.Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.
I've got ADHD. You can ask me about it but I may not remember to answer...0 -

They might ask to see it so that they can set you to work before their copy arrives - and just to check, do you have 6 copies of your CRB?I see. Thanks for correcting me. I have 6 active checks and each time the organisation has asked to see my copy. I wonder why.
However, this is not 'best practice': and it's very poor practice to rely on the copy sent to the individual rather the organisation get a new one done.Signature removed for peace of mind0
