I'm running SliTaz on my netbook currently, fully functioning OS 30MBs! Boots in about 15-20 seconds, much better than the crippled slow Win 7 starter. Not for everybody but personally very happy.

Still got these to TICK and FIX, all this does is stop them starting with Windows:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Skype] "C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /nosplash /minimized

Alternatively, use Ccleaner's Startup tool for startups, and make sure the above are disabled.

    I thought you uninstall Java?

If you do Start, Run, MSCONFIG (enter), then SERVICES, press 'Hide Microsoft services', then untick BONJOUR SERVICE to disable it.

I thought I had uninstalled Java but obviously not properly........ will do that now. Also the Bonjour Service is definitely unticked. I have also now ticked and fixed the above. Must have missed them. Thank you......

Right. Have disabled a few Samsung programmes having googled to find out what they were. Java appears to have finally gone as has Bonjour......

    Thank you again!

Without Java, how will web pages that require Java work? I've got a netbook that's horrrribly slow, but i use it for a lot of web surfing so don't want to remove any programs that are going to leave me with lots of non-functioning web pages.

Very few web pages require Java, so most web browsing will be unaffected. Obviously Java objects on embedded web pages won't work if Java is not installed, but the rest of the page should appear correctly.

Bear in mind that Javascript is completely different to Java - it's built in to most modern browsers so you can't uninstall it (although you can disable it). Many web pages require Javascript, so it's probably not a good idea to disable it permanently. If necessary you can use the Firefox add-on NoScript which disables scripts by default, and allows you to enable them on a domain-by-domain basis.

This is a list of (or remnants of) security software evident in your log, you may wish to uninstall these in Control Panel (add/remove programs or programs/features) to keep your PC running smoothly, too much overlapping or bloated security or useless tuning software can have a drastic effect on performance - always leave one resident scanner running (eg avast/avira etc)

Download and install cleanmem http://www.pcwintech.com/cleanmem (download direct download). In windows explorer, go to c:\windows\tasks, click on the clean system memory task, schedule, advanced, and change it from every 30 minutes to every 5 minutes, then ok, ok. Find c:\program files\cleanmem\mini_monitor, run it and right click the icon (near the clock) to set it to automatically run at startup, show percentage to keep an eye on your ram use. If your machine is still slow after doing everything listed, post your commit charge and installed physical ram details from task manager performance
