do not been to be an eco fundamentalist, but you get some decent rechargable batteries on ebay from china - looking at the higher Mah the better usually and can work well for cameras/devices - and maybe we can all consider this, save a bit of the planet, etc etc. Otherwise for remotes that use very little consder IKEA batteries, I think 99p for 10

Pfffffft and exactly how much environmental damage do you think is done mining and refining the minerals/metals that go into rechargables? Don't forget that most rechargables on sale still leak current like no ones business (discharge) true the new hybrid batteries are very good but even so....

Rechargables still use a considerable amount of power to recharge them and they don't last all that long (cycles) before they don't hold enough charge for more than a few minutes in a high drain appliance.

TBH I understand where you're coming from but I really don't believe that rechargables really do help the planet all that much as you're kicking out more CO2 to recharge them especially now with the compulsory battery collection points keeping alkalines out of landfill

Not sure how you can match up the attitude of using rechargeables and not using one use batteries by then stating about using using cheap own brand tat for things like remotes. I've put good brands into remotes like Energiser and Duracell and they've almost outlasted the appliance lol I certainly wouldn't trust any cheap tat which might only last a short while yet dump the same amount of chemicals and carbon footprint into the environment.

I think the best thing we could do is ban cheap nasty batteries and everything has to live up to Duracell standards. How many cheap batteries do you get to one Duracell for example?

got bitten once a few years back with the cheap batteries that came with the Sky box, lasted ages but went to change them when the remote stopped working and batteries had dissolved the battery compartment cost me £20 for a new remote.

Buy cheap buy twice certainly rings true with batteries for me. However if it works for you then go for it

IKEA batteries in my television never run out and will probably out last the TV.

And do not forget the air miles as most batteries built abroad, the number of batteries not disposed properly. And the efficiency of power stations vastly outstripped efficiency of mining more trace minerals from the earth. Sorry, rechargeables still make sense and you do not have to spend silly money on Duracell for remotes.

    ;)

anybody wanting to find stock of argos items can use this site. it tells you where stock is nationally rather than argos's poor attempt having to check stores individually. http://www.icheckstock.co.uk/Default.aspx

    Oh God, not again.

I think Issyc is probably slightly perplexed at how these threads turn into pages of reduced items that on closer inspection are actually NOT bargains in any way.

Its the way that people on here fall for Argos' 'Bargain Advertising'.

Please take a moment to look at the small print underneath your bargain and see what the previous selling prices are. 90% of your bargains are the same price, slightly more expensive or just £1 cheaper yet that are advertised as HALF PRICE! etc.

Your 'Bargain' is £4 more expensive!

    * Please note item 9262870 has previously been on sale at £18.99.
