Van hire question

Can I hire any sort of van if I only have a normal licence got when I passed my test originally?

I don't have my licence to hand at the moment so I can't check what groups I can drive.

    Sadly, I'm well over 25. :)

I passed my test in 1988. What's a 3.5 or a 7.5 thing in terms of what Arnold Clark hires? What kind of van would that be? :o Would I get furniture in it?

Apologies for being embarrassingly naive. It's always been my OH who has done any previous van hiring but he's not here right now and I'm sitting here mulling over some options.

3.5 or 7.5 is vehicle gross weight in tons think of a small lorry or large van as the difference.

A normal transit type van would be too small to take tall stuff like wardrobes but a Luton body is taller. Also Luton body vans tend to come with a tail lift.

A 7.5t should take a smallish house contents in one but a 3.5t would struggle to get it all in.

When I moved house I hired a LWB LDV Luton body 2.5t van. Did everything in 3 trips but we were only moving 4 miles.

That is a 7.5t, and I think you can drive it if you passed in 88. Don't think you'll struggle with furniture in that!

Thankfully I'm only moving a mile. Not sure I'd be comfortable driving something like that! Thankfully on my 1997 issued licence I can't anyway.
