Non-expiring PAYG SIM?

I've had my same phone number for the last 6 years or so, my contract is up with Vodafone, I want to port out, am leaving the country today for 2 months, want to keep the number but just on a non-expiring PAYG sim as I'm not going to be using it for 2 months as I'll obviously be out of the country.

Any ideas?

No payg sim will forever if it's not used, but 2 month is no problem. You'll get a minimum of 6 months on all the network (12 months on some).

Just make a 2 second call every 5 months and the sim will remain active.

There is no such thing as an unexpiring PAYG SIM, the providers expect to be able to make a bit of money out of you and if there is no income received, they cannot keep the service active indefinitely.

SIM cards do not usually expire after only 2 months and you usuallly have around 170 days before the SIM goes into suspension. If you are going to be overseas, you would still be able to keep the SIM active with the occasional text message home which would not be too expensive. Alternatively, you could consider leaving the phone with a friend in the UK to keep the SIM active.

Just called Vodafone and spoke to a VERY weird Scotsman who spent about 10 minutes telling me I can't have a PAC code unless I email them, not sure what that's about, they gave me one over the phone a couple of months ago but I didn't use it at the time.

If you are on a contract, it is normal procedure to request that you email in to request cancellation.

You wll be able to call Vodafone 48 hours (maybe sooner) after emailing and they will be able to give you your PAC code over the phone.

You will need to give the standard 30 day cancellation notice which will be chargeable.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi soil,

I am sorry to hear that you weren't given the PAC code over the phone. If you drop me an email via the address here with WRT135 FAO Heidi in the subject and a link to this thread, I can help with this.

    Kind regards,
