  • Going from Birmingham on a Friday at 11. Am . Would there be a problem using a tastecard for no 1 lounge anyone know? Just wondered if anyone with a tastecard had been refused because the lounge was full?

I've flown a few times before but never used an airport lounge as I was quite happy to grab a coffee and browse the duty free shops while waiting for the flight to be called. However, as I now have a medical condition which makes standing for long periods extremely difficult, I'd be very grateful to know if booking the airport lounge would have any special advantages for me? I am probably being really thick but there's several things I am unsure of. In particular, is the main purpose of paying for a lounge just to ensure you get a comfortable seat and some free food & drink while waiting for a flight? I've just looked at the Gatwick Number 1 Lounge website (we're flying from Gatwick North in March) and can see there are a few other benefits such as free wifi and a view of the runway. However, what I'd like to know is, do you still queue to check-in first as normal and when the flight is called do you still have to walk the seemingly interminable journey then line up and queue to board the plane as usual (i.e. with passengers that didn't book the lounge) or do you get any sort of priority boarding? The Gatwick site mentions priority security but I have no idea what this means.

I'd be grateful to know if there are any other benefits of using an airport lounge that are not apparent on the Gatwick website or is there any way of reducing the time spent standing in queues for check in, security and passport control etc?

Just lounge access - no special treatment anywhere else. As you highlight you are buying entry to a private room with free drinks, snacks and wifi. To be honest you aren't even guaranteed a seat if it's busy.

You may wish to consider looking at dedicated medical assistance where you'll be collected in a wheel chair at entry to the airport, then assisted through security and first onto the plane. Depends how you cope with your condition, and I don't think you are charged for this.

Usually, it's just access to the lounge. Though some (No. 1 Lounge Stansted) have an agreement where you can use the priority security queue. The other option is to buy a business class flight ticket, then you get all the options (dedicated checkin, priority security, lounge, nicer seats and service on board).

  • Hi, I'm heading away on honeymoon on the 3rd Sept 2014 from Gatwick North Terminal. Are there any discount codes or offers etc. that will allow me and my new wife access for a decent discounted price?
