Warning: Have you noticed street lights being dimmer?

It's about time this ridiculous waste of money and energy was tackled.
There are roads which are in a disgraceful state of repair and have been for years and yet the council wail about not having the money to repair them.
But they can find the money to keep bright street lighting on all night when there is virtually no one around to need it.There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
there are no street lights at all in the village where I live. Its great but then again I like complete darkness when I go to sleep.0

Oh how lovely! I wish more places would at least cut down on the number and brightness of the streetlights, light polution is a real problem and a huge waste of energy.0 -
no street lights here either. We would need a torch to walk down our road at night.0

My partner is a long distance truck driver, and he is hating that they are turning more and more lights off. While it may look very pretty seeing the stars and moon as the only light, it is actually very dangerous for people driving at night.
All they can see is the space in front of them lit up with their headlights, and a 'tunnel' of two rows of cat's eyes, nothing else, which can cause disorientation, and the lack of visual stimulus is something that can cause drivers to 'nod off' Plus, they can't see any potential hazards until they are actually right on top of them.
I know that drivers during the day are not exactly sight seeing as they head down the A1 but being able to see more than 5 foot of head light illuminated tarmac does have a positive effect on them.0 -
I don't know if they have done it yet but where I live they were talking about switching all the lights off in certain areas between 12-5am0

if you worried buy a dozen solar lighs for the garden and if every1 buy a dozen solar lights for the garden street lights wont be needed and less tax0

Our council has done a dimming and switching off trial, when I go to work early it looks as though every third or fourth light is off or dimmer.
But we do live in a very quiet area with not much night traffic.
But as a previous poster mentioned why are they not tackling the roads? our main road looks like a patchwork quilt of patching and different coloured tarmacs, even though we are quiet at night it is very busy by day.0 -
Employer was mentioned in this, and I can say it is happening. Actual costs of the streetlighting are pretty high for the area, however authorities have also been tasked with reducing carbon emissions. Bit more info on this here:

In my area, they have left a light on by each road junction, and turned the rest off all the time. I'm quite happy at the moment, as they've turned off the annoying one outside my bedroom window! I may change my mind in winter though.
I prefer the idea of dimming them or turning them off after midnight.Shrinking my mortgage!
