iphone 3g sim problems

Ok I have a secong hand iphone 3g, it was locked to o2. I think I have managed to jailbreak it. Used redsn0w if its of any interest.

Took tesco payg sim out of my old phone (nokia) and it fits in the tray ok. Inseted into the phone and it says no sim. I looked at the sim in the tray and the plastic bit on the side is covering some of the gold bit of the sim.

Is this why its not recognising the sim or maybe the jailbreak didnt work or do I need a special sim for an iphone 3g?

Help please?!!

Yes, I'm sure its the right way round. Its the only way it 'fits' in.

If the contacts are not made correctly then the phone will not see the sim card as it should, take it out and re-insert it to see if it works the 2nd attempt.
