My mum and dad kept the paper from the day my kids were born (my daughter was born at the time we were invading Iraq in 2003 and everytime I see that paper it reminds me of doing the night feeds watching the invasion on the 24 hour news!) and a coin set and they also got the CD single of the number 1 in the charts the week that mine were born. xxPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000
There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.0 -

I like the bookshelf idea. My dad and his partner promised a book a month, my son is now old enough to read them himself but he still loves the modern classic children's titles like Owl Babies, Gruffalo, Slinki malinki etc. Congrats on your grandchild. x0

Congratulations! I'm due with my first baby in December and due to divorce we have three sets of grandparents for our baby! Three sets of very excited grandparents I should say!
I'd like them all to fill in one of these journals: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0015275DW/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/280-2693955-4220318 As I've got older I've wished that I knew more about my own grandparents as people and more about their lives. Sadly none of them are around anymore....
Personally I'm not a fan of things like ornaments and dislike jewellery on babies. I'm much more about people/personal type memories, so ideas like this journal or the nice photo would appeal most to me. Saying that lovely books are great too.
Good lick finding something and enjoy your grandson x0 -

My son is being named after my wonderful grandfather. My grandfather owned a lifeboat and donated it to a museum (which I didn't find out about until this year as my family are now trying to say my grandfather never donated it and want it back so they can sell it ). When my son is born we will be going to the museum and taking pictures of him with the boat. We'll keep the pictures and any other momentos I have of my grandfather for him. It'll be nice for him to know who he's been named after and what his great grandfather did even though he died over 10 years ago.
I wonder if you could do something like that?Wife and mother :jGrocery budget

I'd just like to say you sound like a lovely grandparent, your grandson is really lucky to have you. I too would say that time and interest is more important than material items, however I think the coin idea is a good one.0

My parents-in-law have bought all of our children their own set of WMF children's cutlery. They are good quality and a nice size for small hands. Each set has a theme so the children know which set is their's. They use them every meal so there is a little reminder of their grandparents three times a day which I think is nice.0
