Had the same issue many times and because of all the changes its almost pointless selling smaller items on ebay anymore. I would ggue a deadline to contact you by as in the amount of time ebay suggests to wait and then coldly file disputes via ebay and then paypal. They are probably spending your money down the boozer and too drunk to respond and if they lose they will be out of pocket with ebay fees.I suggest that good research is needed when buying big on ebay.

You can only do one or the other, a Paypal dispute is the one generally recommended on here, unless you're the buyer of a fake item.

If you didn't like the way the seller was going to post, why did you bid? There must be hundreds of similar items for sale out there - including from other outlets or retailers - that use a safer method of delivery

I bid because i wanted the item - if you look in the console category you'll see majority of private sellers list shipping as royal mail standard or 2nd class - there are not many that list other recorded options - those that do are either massively over-priced or are business sellers selling the items for more than it would cost at my local electrical retailer.

I think my post has been taken the wrong way. A single comment made by another member has everyone thinking that ive bid on an item and immediately demanded they use a completely different shipping method to the one they listed - this is NOT the case - please go back and re-read my OP. My email to the seller re. shipping methods was merely me saying i don't trust royal mail and as a seller i use xxx couriers and they are worth a look - nothing more and certainly not demanding.

I understood what i was bidding on when i put my bid in - it makes no difference to me whether it takes 2 days or 2 weeks to arrive - my frustration and original question came about because of the seller's lack of communication when holding £200 of my money - it takes less than 2mins to reply to an email ;)

I'm not saying the seller is right either to ignore you or relist the item, but I'd rather pay a bit more and know that the purchase was secure from all angles than risk a potential scam on eBay, particularly on an electronic item like that.

The point was the seller was going to post the item by a lesser secure service and would be paying a lot more money for the pleasure. As stated, the original postage was listed as 2nd class standard - that is neither tracked, signed for or insured - therefore relieving the seller of any protection they held with paypal. The service i asked them to look in to was a next day service that was fully insured, fully tracked and would require a signature upon delivery. The benefit to the seller would be keeping their paypal protection and the benefit to me would be that i can track my item and know exactly when i would receive it.

If a seller would get annoyed at being pointed in the direction of a cheaper and more secure postage method - then they really shouldn't be selling at all.....

How long did it say in the advert they would take to post it, and how long did it say the postage would take?

I have been waiting for over a week for a mobile phone sent via parcel post, can't be bothered to email or contact them...

Will wait until the end of next week and if no goods i will open a dispute, i don't see what the fuss is about? Even if you have been scammed so what??

Paypal will just refund you anyway, the only real issue is time wasted on your half.

I do sympathise with you but when I buy something like that I don't go to eBay at all. I've had too many dud electronic purchases to risk my cash on a secondhand item, and I don't trust many sellers of new electronics on eBay - there aren't IMO enough guarantees done by eBay itself (like Amazon do) that the purchase will be sound; even if I am protected by Paypal, I'd rather have a working item first time round than faff about with most eBay sellers' ideas of legal T&Cs. I'd rather get something from a retailer I trust and leave eBay for books, antiques/collectable items without moving parts, and so on. I won't even buy a copy of software that has an activation key on eBay because it's too easy for someone to send me a used copy. If this reflects badly on eBay sellers here who do successfully sell electronics, then I'm sorry, but I've been burnt too many times and so...no thank you.

I know what you're arguing but I still think you're being rather presumptuous that you feel it's a good idea to take a seller to task about delivery methods without appearing bent in some way. People are stupidly paranoid, but I would just advise in this case that if you really want a secure purchase, you should be looking elsewhere. Or if you want to risk eBay, then you need to find someone who will send it securely in advance of bidding. This also isn't an eBay-run board so I'm also free to say - go and get yourself something from a better retailer.

Crowqueen I'm quite surprised at your response as you are jumping to conclusions and making judgements without all the information which is unlike you. Normally your posts are better balanced than this IMO which is why I find your normal viewpoints balanced and interesting to read.

For 2nd hand items sold on Amazon by sellers you wont get any better guarantees their. You will just get the normal A-Z coverage. In fact Paypal is easier to claim on than Amazon. In 45 days it is enough time to check any electronic 2nd hand purchase. In reality 2nd hand electronic items is no more risk than buying other items as long as you know your rights and check your sellers out.

I find it strange that an experienced buyer and seller like yourself seems to have had problems in these markets. Their are dodgy selllers in all categories. I buy a lot of Vintage Games and consoles (as I collect them) I have had very few problems just using the same buying methods I do in any other categories. In fact in my ands my wifes experience i've come across more dodgy selllers in the Clothes and Baby markets.

You're making an assumption what the OP bought is available elsewhere. The console Market is contantly moving. A lot of older hardware is only available on venues like ebay.

As you know Paypal is a pretty secure way for a buyer to purchase an item, As long as a buyer is willing to absorb any possible return costs. As I said above 45 days is long enough to test most pieces of hardware.

As for the OP telling the seller what postal method to use. It may have been ill judges on their part but in reality wasnt the point of their posts and not really that much of a problrm

Irrelevant question to ask since ive already stated i didn't mind waiting weeks (if that is how long it took - everyone has a real life outside of ebay) - it was lack of seller response that was frustrating

It must be a nice feeling to have more money than you know what to do with ;) You've obviously not ever been on the receiving end of a scam and have to wait 12+ weeks to find out if you'll ever get your money back - great for you - how's it feel sat up there on your high horse?

I find your post very insulting to all those buyers either through ebay or otherwise that have been a victim of a scam. FYI i don't want a refund, i want the item that i paid for, would have been pointless for me to sit there bidding on an item i intended to get a refund for

The only person to understand my original post and not rip in to me for sending a polite email to my seller was Oliver14!!!!

I can't believe how you are all slating me for offering my seller (note the word 'offering' i in no way demanded they change shipping methods) links to a more secure shipping method - but on other threads you are slating others for not using those very same secure shipping methods - double standards i think.....

Sorry mikey72 & DitaVonTee - it's difficult when the good replies get lost amongst the not so good ones - that'll teach me for rushing to post and not actually re-reading all the replies when giving thanks.

to all those that gave constructive replies regarding my original post/question - i really appreciate your posts :D
