I did wonder about worming as well - should that be done at the same time as the Frontline & can it be put in the same place on the back of the neck?? I would rather use the liquid than tablets - he doesn't take kindly to taking tablets.
Thanks again everyone for your help.
I can promise you from bitter experience - I once moved into an infested property - that vacuuming will not solve the flea problem and that fleas can live in the crevices of hard flooring as well as carpets, sofas and bedding. We had to have the house professionally sprayed three times over several months as dormant eggs just kept hatching. I read a leaflet in the vets last week claiming that 95% of fleas are in your home, only 5% on the cat.
The spot-on wormer is apparently prescription only so you will need to see your vet. An alternative is Milbemax tablet wormer again on prescription which is apparently teeny tiny. If the vet wants to see you before prescribing you can ask them to give your cat the tablet!
I use Stronghold spot-on which covers fleas, worms and ear mites, it is ~£8 at my vet so good value IMO. If your vet gives you a repeat prescription you can purchase this cheaper online. My current and last rescue cats caught ear mites when they were strays so I learned how uncomfortable it is for them and about the increased risk of ear infections, IMO this is well worth treating for every so often.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Flea drops only cover one type of worms so you will need treatment (tablets or drops- administer drops at least a week after/before flea drops to be on the safe side) for the other type.
I have monthly Stronghold for fleas and 3 monthly (on Vets advice as Lily goes outside Spring/summer) Profender drops.0 -
Take the collar off - it could even be that which is irritating him - and replace it with another collar, but add the original bell onto the new one.
Collars tell people someone has a family - an invisible chip doesn't - lots of people will tell you that the vet refused to check for a chip as 'nobody does that round here', and someone can justify keeping a 'stray' without a collar. Mine was overheard visiting an older lady who lives several houses over the back of my garden 'oh, you're a sweet thing, are you lost? Do you want something to eat? Oh, you have a collar - so you're just visiting, then?'
With the double bell technique, I defy any cat to move silently - mind you, mine is so stoopid, he caught his first ever wood mouse despite jingling like a demented jester - and let go of it to shout at me to tell me about it. And he only caught it because the idiot thing ran into his paws from the plant pot it had been hiding behind. I think the bird population of the area is still safe - and he is traceable by his jingle alone in the garden after dark (or when I'm coming down the stairs without putting my glasses on)I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Thanks again everyone
Had a  moment last night when my Daughter thought she had found a flea in her bedroom - turned out to be a little moth hopping around - phew!!
I'm still waiting for the Frontline to arrive... I ordered it a week ago so not best pleased as p&p was nearly £4!!
I'm with Jojo the Tightfisted on the collar issue - I do like him having one as I can hear him mooching about at night & it stops me shutting the door in his face when it's dark & I can't see him (he's black). Lol at the woodmouse saga btw
KxMx, thanks for the info on the worming side of things, I obviously need to know more about what beasties can affect outdoor cats, will have a google.'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

The Frontline arrived in the post yesterday afternoon - finally - HappyMJ, I ordered it via Amazon, total cost £19.15 for 6 applications.
I'm going to wait until it's calm today (ie no kids around to wind him up) & then attempt to apply it - should be interesting... I know other posters have said their cats go a bit mad for a while afterwards!!'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

Just make sure you put it at the little hollow at the base on the neck where puss cannot lick it off.
Incidentally,it wasn't Orbit who got the fleas,it was ME!!! I'd been working in a particularly stinking hovel of a home that day & bought them home.(I was a service tech for NTL at the time)
I stripped off in the apartment communal hall & burnt my uniform....0 -
The Cat was snoozing away, completely relaxed so I thought I'd give application a try... nope... he wasn't having any of it!! Suddenly wide awake & his back leg primed to give me a whack - he definitely knew what I was up to!! Daft thing obviously doesn't know it's for his own good!! Will try again later...
spike7451, that's awful _pale_ but it did make me laugh (& itch), sorry:D
