I have just acquired a beautiful 4 year old cat and a soon to be bill of between a £150-£300 bill for dental work! The vet recommended Hills prescription diet to help clean his teeth and assured me all cats love it. This one does not!!! He tucks into wet food only which is probably why his teeth are bad at the back.

Having had a cat which suffered with crystals in the urethra (?) I am trying to avoid this, so like him having the moisture but am at a loss how to get him to eat the crunchie things. Maybe I should just put them down and give the wet once a day. What do you think? This cat seems to want to eat about 5 times a day!!!

Maybe you could try giving him a few Hills oral mixed in with another dry food that he likes? Then maybe some wet food once a day with a little water mixed in to make it extra wet? That's what I'd do anyway.

is she meant to have those cat crunchie things? is a dry food better for her?
i will admit to giving her a tin of tuna when ive run out of cat food (was this a bad thing to do?)

A mixed wet and dry diet is preferable for most cats unless there is a medical reason not to feed this.

All dry can tend to lead to urinary problems and all wet is now believed to lead to more hyperthyroidism.

An occasional tin of tuna should be fine.

I guess I'm just lucky with mine, they are not very fussy although they didn't like the Vitacat tins I bought from Lidl and I'm not surprised as I wouldn't have eaten that muck either :(

They have half a can each of Tesco tinned chunks in gravy or jelly in the morning and a bowl of Tesco dry food in the evening. Neither of them have any health problems and I've never had a cat that suffered from any problems apart from the odd poisoning and accident. Most of the cats I've owned have lived to the age of 18 or so and the last death occurred at the age of 22.

My cats love James Wellbeloved dry food, if you look up the JWB website, you can send away for free samples of there dog and cat foods. I've done this a few times now, they dont seem to have a limit to how many times you can apply. My last cat was very fussy, but she also loved JWB.
They also have tinned food, but I change this every few weeks, as they do tend to get boreif I stick to the same kind

You can get the free samples of James Wellbeloved every 3 months 3.gif

Due to unprecedented demand, we have had to close down our Samples Request facility in order to allow the backlog to be cleared.

We anticipate that the service will be restored in a few weeks so do continue to check back at regular intervals.
