Just sold laptop... Help please!

Hello,

Yesterday I sold a laptop on eBay for £230. The user promptly put the money into my paypal account andi have notification from paypal confirming funds.

Here is where it gets a little awkward,,,

Buyers confirmed paypal sending address is different to his eBay address.

He has emailed asking for the item to be sent to the non confirmed address and I am really not comfortable with this.

He then said that the paypal address has been changed and now the correct confirmed address isin place... but I have just spoken to paypal who say it isn't!

I am going round in circles here, buyer says the confirmed address is not his anymore as he has moved and forgot to update the address in time.

I am worried if I despatch to any address other than the confirmed paypal address I am leaving myself open to a claim and have no seller protection.

He also has zero feedback on eBay.

What do I Do? He has paid me!

Thanks

Whilst I tend to agree with robpw2 it isn't quite that easy as if buyer does take a hike you get left with all your fees.

    The postage requirements are here:

So you are quite correct in that you have no seller protection at all unless you send to the paypal address that says 'OK to send'.

The only way of getting that address changed is for you to refund the buyer, get them to change the address in paypal and then repay , making sure they choose the correct address before they confirm payment.

Thanks everyone, I'll message him now saying that's the way forward and get his agreement!
    Bloody minefield this eBay thing!

I agree with Soolin thats the only way you can be sure as Paypal will just pull the money bad as soon as there is a hint of a claim or issue without warning!

    Good luck :)

Ok guys.... Had a reply already. Am I alone in thinking this doesn't sound/feel right? Apparently this guy is called Daniel, but his grasp of English seems to be awful. Plus the zero feedback has got me worried.

What should I do? I don't want to lose and have to repay fees again! I also don't want this guy re buying.

Yesterday I spent 1.5 hours to change your address on Paypal by phone and IS AMENDED BY CHELTENHAM !!!!!!!!! If by Monday you do not receive confirmation of sending the parcel to my current address for the return of my money management and you will leave appropriate negative feedback on eBay. I paid for laptop 5 minutes after zlicytowaniu counting on fast shipping and you drag a second day shipping. I work and I do not have time to write you an e-mail! INFORM YOU WITH THE ADDRESS, Bognor is outdated NOW WORK IN CHELTENHAM AND THIS ADDRESS IS FOR LAPTOP BE SENT TO WHICH YOU PAID !!!!!!!!!

    "zlicytowaniu"?

Sounds like he's used a translation program
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Yep, that sounds worrying, the nag to ship quickly suggests a problem.

Respond very politely with something like " Thank you for your very prompt response, I will of course be refunding your money in full as per paypal suggested (no doubt they told you the same when you mentioned changing your address) and then if you have successfully changed your address when you repay it will automatically show as corrected for me and i can then ship on Monday.

I have let paypal know that you are having difficulty with this, so when you next contact them they will be able to reassure you that the seller understands the problem'.

Then refund, phone paypal and say something looks dodgy.

Also without getting into any racist argument it is also a fact that many of the coastal towns in the South have a very high number of temporary residents here to learn English and who have temporary addresses, whilst I am always happy to ship to one of those addresses I will make sure that I always have full and total paypal protection.

zlicytowaniu is Polish for auction, so you are probably correct.

If you want to delay them a bit while paypal look into it, next time you reply to one of their e-mails, make sure that you add a few random words.
    Dear buyer,
I have contacted paypal and spoodlinkck me to advise you to goddlebock the wobbnit.
    Regards

It will probably keep them busy on the online translator for a few hours.

    Thanks again all!

    One other thing...

Although the buyer paidinto my paypal account, it still isn't in my current account.

I asked to withdraw the money yesterday and it's still showing as 'pending'.

Before I refund should I wait until this status has gone to 'completed' ?

Thanks again for all your kind help

The problem you will have is that if your paypal account is Zero then you won't be able to refund the buyer.
Making a refund isn't the same as making a purchase in that the money won't be taken from your nominated funding source and sent directly to the buyer.

You will have to load funds into your paypal account to enable the refund to be made directly from there.
Don't be tempted to simply send a cash payment to the buyer instead of using the refund transaction process as this will leave you open to being scammed.
If you did this, Paypal wouldn't tie up the payment that you sent with the original transaction, so if the buyer opened a non received dispute, they would be refunded again.
