Silas Marner, I love that story
My mom's friend had 22 grand in her sideboard.
She used to leave her heating switched off, it seems so pointless. she died leaving all that money in the cupboard when she could have kept herself warm and had decent meals.
We haven't got any money hidden but it seems like a good idea.

wow i read this thread with real interest.
I must say I am the COMPLETE opposite. I never carry cash ... I'd be lucky to find a £1 coin in my purse!:p
I transact everything by card.. I personally find if I carry cash I flitter it away on stuff that I can never recall.
For my circumstances and the type of person I am I like everything to be itemised at least I then know where every penny is going.
I am however wondering whether it would be worth maybe keeping something at home even if its as little as £50
Thanks all
ps loved the post re the old lady to... reminded me of my nan.. she kept money at home and my parents discovered her carers stealing it:mad:.. Well done you for protecting the vulnerable :TGoal - We want to be mortgages free :j

We don't have more than about £20 in our house at any time.
My brother in law told me years ago that if you only take that much from the hole-in-the-wall, that's all you'll spend. Take out more and you'll still spend it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I found half a crown behind the fridge recently. What does that say about my cleaning habits?0

I try to keep £100 in an emergency pot.
Hubby & son are always asking for money as they haven't been to the bank etc.
I always make them pay it back though:rotfl:Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
