Talk Talk Contract Renewals - Shady Practices?

Reading the TT member forums I see several posts where someone renews their contract with TT (say for 12 months) whereby they get a discount (e.g. half price Plus calls plan for 6 months). In many cases this renewal gets "stuck" and it can take 2 or 3 months to be "fixed".

In such cases the member still gets the agreed discount, but the renewal doesn't effectively start until 3 months later, so in effect TT are getting the member on a 15 month contract rather than a 12 month contract. (Nobody's going to leave if they're expecting to get the discount).

I wonder if this is a deliberate ploy to hold on to customers for longer without giving additional discounts?

Disclosure: I am not with TT, this is merely a question of curiosity.
