Seriously- I avoid these sales like the plague at PCWorld, as you will find they are just to bump the numbers up for "end of month" figures. I usually wait until about the 28th or 29th, when sod all has been sold, and all the returns have been in, which can't be sold as new, so they go on the clearance section. Much better bargains to be had, especially if you multi-buy. Got 2 SATA hard drives and a sound card for around 60% of retail last year- all unopened, unwanted xmas presents!

Sorry to DP, but its all up on the mezzanine floor upstairs. Can't affect the "sale" then, can it? I know, as I used to be one of their contractors (for my sins).
  • 199 pound laptop

Alrite the spec for the £199 laptop I think are

    • VIA C7 1.53GHz processor
    • 133 Mhz FSB
    • 64 Kb Cache
    • 256Mb RAM
    • 64 Mb ntegrated graphics Card
    • DVD ReWriter
    • 14.1" display
    • 20 Gb Hard Drive
    • Shared 64Mb Castle Rock
    • Windows XP Home Edition
    • 1 Year Free Warranty
    (from the sun newspaper)

I was just wondering if any1 has found anything better in the sales for under £300 ( since I can see any other companies reducing laptops prices below 200 pounds)
  • Can someone clarify - the web prices are different to store. We asked for voucvhers for crimbo - so need to pay in store. Can we reserve online, and pay that price if we take our printout?

    TIA

If the item shows as collect@store you can get the web price - just take a copy of the order, normally to the customer services/repairs desk.

Our local store had a refit in November and the 'Bargain Zone' disappeared - there isn't even any space for it now!

I was tempted to go out this morning and get one of the £199 laptops they had been advertising. Couple of things put us off though.
The fact they only had 10 per store. (Which usually means that staff get their mates to come in and buy one) Plus the speed of the laptop. I thought our PC was slow at 2.93GHZ but at 1.53ghz that is very very slow.
Ok for somebody who is just wanting something basic but for what most people use PC's for nowadays it would be very basic.

Depends what you want to do with it - my "surfing" PC is an old laptop - Pentium 900MHz, 512MB memory, 10GB disk. Does all the web stuff, word, excel, access, basic photo-editing etc
