Drop Kerb Granted in Cul de Sac

An able-bodied neighbour has been granted a drop kerb in our cul-de-sac now meaning the rest of us can no longer park there without her permission. And presumably now giving her land rights.

Can the council just do this without informing all the other occupants in advance who clearly are now affected?

Should any of us park there as before, we can be charged with obstruction and this is clearly unfair and unjust.

How come one individual with a desire for personal parking should be granted a privilege to the detriment of everyone else?

Do we have any rights at all to restore our previous parking rights?

Euphrosene

PS Parking is at a premium in our cul de sac these days so this is a seriously unneighbourly act.

Yes, the council are not required to give notice to neighbouring poroperties

Generally, police/councils will only take action if the neighbour is blocked from leaving their drive, but not if they are blocked from entering

It will have cost the neighbour several hundred pounds to have the dropped kerb installed

    None whatsoever

There is nothing to stop you applying for your own dropped kerb

Could be worth checking if planning consent was given.

I live in a mid-terrace... like several others who would be put out by this loss of a space. But thanks for your input.

Seems so but I think the information given might have not have been accurate. Have since found out others have registered a complaint.

But the point of this post was to ask how the highways manager could apparently approve something for one person when it clearly would negatively affect far more people - including some elderly people.

Additionally, the dropped kerb resident is in her late 30s early 40s and ablebodied. Meaning there is no health reason for it.

And, most of all, that none of us was given any prior warning or the changed road structure. We only discovered today with the noise of the workmen!

It may have cost her a bob or two but if it means loss of parking facilities for the majority, as well as making it difficult for other neighbours to park beside it, without blocking another entrance, then the highways manager should have checked with others first.

From what you are saying, council managers can create a disharmonious situation with no way of putting it right. I can't believe that.

Aside: Just had a kindly message to remove my signature as it's not allowed. Firstly, I didn't know. But if it isn't, why does it ask for that information in my profile setup? :^D

According to your website, this is your road. doesn't seemm much of a parking problem to me. Where exactly is the new dropped kerb?

Firstly, that map was taken years ago. Try looking NOW and most evenings and weekends. You can't move for cars. She's also rarely there during the day.

As for 'where' how relevant is that?

You can list your homepage in your user profile, but not in your signature that appears in each post (it's considered advertising/spamming)

Orford is one of the more knowledgeable posters here, if he asks "where" there will be a reason behind it.
