Unauthorised withdrawal from my bank account - compensation?

With respect, the laws and banking rules may be very different in the US, this is a UK forum, you may be better asking on a US one if you're talking $.0

OP - your circumstances with your girlfriend and general attitude towards others is not Elance's problem, and whilst you might be able to specifically pinpoint their mistake as a cause of your relationship problems, you can't really hold them responsible for any issues that have arisen as a result of the withdrawal. I'm not trying to be harsh, just giving you some idea of how Elance will view any claim for compensation - they couldn't be reasonably expected to have predicted that a $30 mistake would cause such grief, so any compensation will be a goodwill gesture rather than an entitlement.0

As the poster mentions banking with smile.co.uk I suspect he does means pounds not dollars and this is a UK not a US issue.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

fluffnutter, your insight and wisdom are clearly wasted on me...
Thank you to those that offered constructive help.
To be honest I think your coming across as quite rude in this thread and slightly desperate, although given your financial circumstances I can understand this.
What do you feel is a reasonable amount of compensation out of interest?0 -
Yet again another thread descends into judgment and insults. When will people actually read the mission statement for this site? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

No wonder the GF has been grumpy - a night out for $30 ? Not worth putting your mascara on for !

It's amazing how often 'constructive help' is synonymous with 'what I wanted to hear'. A bit of debate and different opinions makes life interesting. Just because someone tells you something you don't want to listen to doesn't mean you should cry foul."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Oh... Flyboy has arrived.Yet again another thread descends into judgment and insults. When will people actually read the mission statement for this site?
OP, do not worry. Your problems are nearly over.
I am sure Flyboy will be posting very shortly on exactly what compensation you are entitled to.0
