With respect, the laws and banking rules may be very different in the US, this is a UK forum, you may be better asking on a US one if you're talking $.

OP - your circumstances with your girlfriend and general attitude towards others is not Elance's problem, and whilst you might be able to specifically pinpoint their mistake as a cause of your relationship problems, you can't really hold them responsible for any issues that have arisen as a result of the withdrawal. I'm not trying to be harsh, just giving you some idea of how Elance will view any claim for compensation - they couldn't be reasonably expected to have predicted that a $30 mistake would cause such grief, so any compensation will be a goodwill gesture rather than an entitlement.

As the poster mentions banking with smile.co.uk I suspect he does means pounds not dollars and this is a UK not a US issue.

To be honest I think your coming across as quite rude in this thread and slightly desperate, although given your financial circumstances I can understand this.

What do you feel is a reasonable amount of compensation out of interest?

As elance.com is an american website payments are made in dollars which would explain the reference to $ instead of £.

I haven't read any mission statement, but i'm sure it revolves around moving saving , not money gaining
