I've never needed to ask for one, but i believe (with cap one) that you have to wait for them to give you an increase, there's no point in asking, They say that they'll write out when you are eligible to recieve one.

^ I'd second that. I have only asked once, but on that occasion I was told that they would increase it automatically/write to me to invite me to increase it.

After a year of having a standard card (£600 limit I think it was), they wrote to me and offered a 'Silver' card with £1600 limit.
  • they do write but not on a very regular basis, I too had the classic card with a £200 limit and they increased it to a premier card with £600 about 18 months ago. Over the past 12 months there hasnt been managed too badly probaly one overlimit charge in the last year but they still havnt increased it even though the balance is below half of the limit. Im not holding my breath as they are making enough money out of the premier card rather than upgradng me. Im hoping when the balance is paid they might think to upgrade it, if they dont im going to dump them.
  • this year they increased my limit from 200 to 800 pounds.... this is after 6 yrs of being with them. im now trying hard to get rid of them. avoid cap one at all costs. dont wait to have increased limit, save instead. it's quicker!!

please please please get rid of your cap 1 card. if you get into the stinky stuff with them they wont help you and will just pile on the penalty charges. in years they have charged me over 700quid in penalties. often for a late [payment of just 1 day because of stupid bank holidays and payments crossing etc.

you can tell they dont careabout customers from the response you get when u ask for a crdit increase........ computer says no.

I've had regular increases from them without asking. Over £6k i think now but will never use that much!
  • yes but is your card the platinum or whatever its called. Its the premier and classic card where they mess people around as the people that tend to have these cards struggle to get one else where.

Funny situation with Capital One, pretty easy to get a card in the first place and often they have a long interest free offer too but once a customer they tend to ignore you - the computer says no! as one poster has already mentioned.

I think the best way to use Capital One is to clearly know what you're after when you sign up i.e free balance transfers etc and just use it for that.

There are so many credit cards out there and most have better customer relations than Capital one. and of course you can always check the money saving expert site to get the best deal.

Thanks for the opportunity to have a go at capital one - I really dislike them as a company!!!!!
  • and they put the phone down on you if you dont agree with what their saying when you get through to the foriegn calll center. But if you happen to get through to the UK one (1000/1 chance of that) they are nice as pie to you.

Just ask to be put through to the uk, say that you won't speak unless they put you through.

You get between 12 and 18 months 0% out of them.....what more do you want from them?! I couldn't care less about customer relations. They lend me money and don't charge me interest. Thats all i care about :)
