Because there was no need to claim ?????????????

As I stated the "The damage was repaired as best as possible by FIL so didnt cost us thankfully !"

Without offence that still makes no sense whatsoever.

    From what you've said;

    Your "new" car was damaged.

    It wasn't your fault.

    You had all the details

But you decided not to claim.

By inference you let a relative do a less than perfect job.

Why would you do all that and lower the value of your car when some careless, and from your description, ignorant driver, had been the perpetrator???, come on please
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Would it not be a good idea to go down to your local police station to insist that they run a proper search? It's much harder to fob you off in person than it is on the phone. They won't really have much of a choice if you say that you're willing to wait until someone is free to assist you. Good luck :)
Never argue with an idiot; they'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Ask for the CCTV.Police will not be interested with just half a number plate unless someone was injured.

half a number might be of no use, i know where there are 10 lorries parked up right now with plates starting YX11, and another 12 or so that start with YJ08.

the only way to repair it better than my FIL had managed was to replace the entire bumper, which would be over-kill to say the least.

The time it would have taken to chase up insurance claims, get the car repaired and also for us to be without the car would have been of more detriment that the acceptable repair my FIL could do as a mechanic !

The point of my story wasnt the damage but the outcome of involving the Police,

Now no offence but satisfied now ??

The police will only chase someone up for committing a road traffic offence (or any other offence, obviously) and these days only if they think they have a good chance of successful prosecution. They're not going to chase him up for you to make a civil claim against him, its not their job.

    ??

Im confused, where did that come from >?

We didnt ask the police to chase him up so we could make a claim ! He was reported as its an offence to damage someone else's property, we wanted him to be spoken to about it so at the very least he thought about what he had done.

The offence is failing to exchange details. So you have to report it (within 24 hours) for your own protection. Police should persue but not easy without correct VRM.

The police wont be able to collect a fine, so as far as they are concerned everything that appears to fall outside of them getting a few quid is a civil matter.

Fine, but if the damage wasn't serious enough for you to get it repaired properly then rest assured it isn't important enough for the police to bother with. whistling.gif
