So now Rupert and James Murdoch can go to Jeremy Hunt "Well, I know you got a lot of negative responses to your consultation on our proposed BSkyB takeover bid, but we've done the right thing and closed News Of The World, it's all in the past so there's really no reason for you to block the takeover..."

The current bid is much more valuable to them than the NOTW, so they'll do whatever necessary to ensure the government they got elected allows the takeover. Especially since they're just going to rebrand the NOTW or launch a Sunday Sun

So.. the news of the world is basically the sun on sunday.... and now sun is going 7 days a week.... it'll be the same people doing the same !!!! under a different name.

If news corp really cared, they'd disband the sun and news of the world and NOT continue at all.

It's a publicity stunt. I await the first issue of sunday sun for its inevitable editorial piece saying how they're bringing ethics back to journalism, and not one mention of how the sun gloated whenever repeating something that its (beloved) sister newspaper uncovered the previous week.

    Not that I'm a cynic.

They had already announced they wanted to extend the sun to 7 day publication, which would probably have entailed the closure of NOTW. This has just given them an excuse to bring it forward. Brooks had said last week that there were some difficult decisions ahead. (I doubt she was referring to who's phone to tap next.)

No the difficult decision Brooks was talking about was the decision in how much she claims as a bonus this year, or as a bonus for "stepping down" ;)

But the people behind this debacle will ultimately be moved sideways & keep their jobs &,more importantly, their pensions.Anyone who is 'sacked'(cough) or resigns (cough cough) will get a substantial golden handshake/severance package.

Seriously tho..what will I line my cat's litter tray with now...Sunday Mirror...Mmmmm...decisions decisions....

27 years ago they burgled a persons house i know to get hold of a video tape...its been going on for a while
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
