New Ebay Item Specifics for Clothing & Accessories

What's the deal with the New item specifics in The Clothing & Accessories category?
Ebay are basically saying if you don't provide certain specifics such as Brand, Size, Style, Length etc. - your auctions will get blocked! (Which to me, is a bit strong).
What is the purpose of this exactly?
You can provide most of the details needed, within your auction description! I don't quite get it.

It's to make sure things can be fully searched from the main listings screens, and help to catalogue individual items more completely.
I don't see the problem myself; unless the categories are messed up, it gives buyers more of a chance to find what they're looking for."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

nah.. you can always relay on ebay to get things right first time...
in the States they are having a lot of problems, colours shades are too specific and also open to interpretation, ebay now display a size chart that is totally wrong.
If for example you buy something WoT, how do you know if they are telling the truth anyway (I buy that from trusted sellers, can save a lot of money just not having that little piece of material....).0 -

The problem I can foresee is that everyone advises clothes sellers to list actual measurements because sizes vary so much from manufacturer to manufacturer. I can't squeeze into H&M size 16 trousers but M&S 12s have plenty of room.
However, as long as it at least functions I don't see it being that unfair an idea at least."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Is it to help, or for ebay to keep an eye on what people are selling.
A few people have said that they've been limited on how many high street brands they can list.0 -

Is this a new development? I've always heard of designer brands being limited, maybe the big outlets they don't want competition from small sellers?0 -
The last one was a few weeks ago, I'm not sure if it was around the last free listing weekend, the poster was only selling her own unwanted High Street clothing & ebay said she had reached the limit that she was able to list of branded items, or it was worded similar to that.
I can't remember how it was worded I've done a quick search & can't find it. Hopefully it's someone who keeps an eye on this board & will let us know what was said etc.0 -
It doesn't effect me as a seller, but as a buyer it's really annoying that they want to limit access to cheap clothing...
probably high street stores are fed up with sellers buying all the sales stuff on to resell on ebay0 -

My nephew got same message. Think the block lasts 30 days, then you can start again.
He asked me what to do - so i said open another account - and alls well.0 -

The one I'm thinking of from a few weeks ago it was her own, worn clothes so not bought to resell.
I knew my dithering would come back to bite me on the ar5e, I hate selling clothes but have loads, if they are going to limit the amount a seller can sell than it will be a pain.
Big Wardrobe some I guess. My nephew got same message. Think the block lasts 30 days, then you can start again.

Was he told how many he could list in a month, or just that he had exceeded some unknown quantity?
My advice was to not use the item specifics, so a tally couldn't be kept.
I'm pretty sure that the last one on here had listed a really small amount & wasn't allowed to list any more.0
