It cost me £500 but to be honest I didnt buy it to save money just because a liked the idea. Re the money side, well I grow koy Carp in there and could probably sell the 15 I have in there for about £20 each at the moment. Monthly costs are 31p - 1p per day plus 2p worth of fish food (although I cut this down a bit by feeding them with me veg scraps from the kitchen).
So you have grown 7 month old fish to a size consistent with being roughly 2 years old/8-9 inches long in there since January? How have you managed that?
I know - you've fed them on

Nothing much new about aquaponics, like hydroponics its been around for years and the basic principles are easy to understand. You feed the fish and the fish feed the plants. Its simple to achieve if you already have a pond but of course that means its seasonal unless the pond is under cover so you can keep the fish active.
I created a tray that sits over the pond and is filled with fine gravel or pea shingle. Into this i plant seedlings then divert water from the waterfall into the tray where it feeds the seedlings and then returns to the pond. very simple and works it exceptionally well.0 -

Average size pump ~100 Watts. UV bulb~ 25 Watts. both running 24 hours every day. Monthly cost 31p. I don't think so!!.0 -
