My sis in law just called me to say there is an advertisement in one of todays papers for a Laptop in PC World. Reduced from £299 to £199 on boxing day.
Im assuming it will be one of the EI Systems ones, not having seen the ad myself. There is nothing as yet on PC Worlds site.
One to keep an eye out for I suspect

Ahh well done! I couldnt find that (too many snowballs last night I suspect!!)
Not the best machine in the world I have to say, but would be ok for just work and internet I imagine. I cant see it running games like "The Sims" very well. But a good starter for the money.0 -
Does any techie people out there think these machine have a good spec ? I would be most interested in the laptop but a 20gb hard disc doesnt seem very big to me !"The time is always right to do what is right"0

the processor's aren't very fast (i think you mean Ghz!)0 -
Like I said, you would struggle to do much other then type on it. I saw one of these on display a few weeks ago and the screen on it was truly awful in comparison to other display models. It seemed more pixilated and very dull.
Went into the store a week later and the EI Laptop was the only one not turned on.....0 -
The Via CPU is the slowest CPU type you can buy in a PC
Couple that with the barely big enough 256mb of memory this machine will CRAWL !!!
I think if anyone bought these and expected anything more than word processing and internet they would be sorely disapointed.
Buying one of these now would give you the equivelant to an 10 year old laptop specification wise.
You would be better off buying a second hand laptop.
If you buy a second hand Acer branded laptop (thats under a year old) you can extend the warranty for another 2 years for about £500 -
Would this be good enough for just surfing? or will it be really slow at that as well. My inlaws are looking for one and as its their first computer literally all they want it for it to access the net. Dont know wether to recommend or not. Any advice? would be grateful.0

Or add a bit to it and get the fabulous Toshiba Equium from Dixons reduced to £4990 -

It would probably put them off using a pc forever lol
A much better machine can be had from Dells outlet store (refurbished or cancelled dell machines)
I saw one this morning for £240 + £40 delivery that would wipe the floor with this machine0
