Yes you would void your insurance cover to drive on the road if you weren't taxed, and were driving illegally.

So you paid your insurance premium for the year, let the tax run out and complete a SORN, as failure to complete a SORN is £1000 fine. Then drive down the road and hit a parked car. You think your insurance company will pay out the for damage to the other car? Call ANY insurance company or broker for an answer.

What the police can do is issue you with a fine upto £5000 and give you a prison sentence for making a false declaration.

I guess if you are wanting to drive without paying road tax, DONT complete a SORN, just sit back and wait for the £1000 to drop through the letter box, dont pay that and have your car clamped etc etc and hope the you dont drive past a police car. Personally, I would just tax it and get on with my life!

The most the police can give you is fpn for £200 and six points.

Fines of up to £5000 are a matter for the court.

    Please, get your facts right.:)

Sorry, the COURT can issue you with a £5000 fine and a prison sentence.

    Read the SORN declaration. ;)

I think you'll find they'll pay out and then chase you for the costs.

And therefore as they covered you for third party risks you cannot be prosecuted for no insurance.;)

The insurer may not pay out in the first place and if they do and seek re-embursement from you then I am sure they would inform police confirming that the insurance was void at the time.
