  • Very poor in Chester This Year, had hoped to pick up a £10 goose from M&S like this year but was in their at 3pm and noticed staff wheeling away short by sell by dates into the back...could be a sign shops are getting wise, was also the same at Sainsburys nothing massively reduce here as well...

I went to Morrisons at 2.30pm and did quite well, I was quite happy to give other people stuff that I knew I wouldn't eat but as always many people were being greedy just for the sake of it.
Tesco discarding food is plain wrong but I know that all the stores behave like that.
Merry Christmas everyone, btw The M&S sale is due on their website some time today!
  • All turkeys were gone when I got to my local Sainsbury's. People were hovering around the chickens waiting for them to be reduced as with the Christmas stock but anything with a sell by date after 26th was NOT reduced.

Ended up with just a couple of pasta sauces @ 20p each (from £1.99) which have gone into the freezer and a melon @ 20p (was 2 for £2.50).

    No doubt for the staff!
This is a do-it-yourself test for paranoia: you know you've got it when you can't think of anything that's your fault.

i think you'll find that that is an m&s policy. i don't see the problem
  • I work at Morrisons, I know that on a Sunday we reduce food by 25% at 10.30am (open at 9.30) and can go as low as 9p when we reduce at 12.30.

On Christmas Eve we had food dated 25th, 26th, 27th reduced by half price at midday and almost giving it away at 3pm. The best time to go shopping for reductions is around 1pm most days and be nice to the person reducing if you see them, anything can be as little as 9p and it is their own discretion but we are advised to do it at just under 50% unless we have alot of the same prodcut.

This could be that it was going o be collected by a charity for a homeless shelter or something of that nature. Then again maybe it was not. I do know that some shops do donate there close to/past sell by date in this way.

  • Due to my utility room and part of my kitchen being demolished for my new extension I have lost the space for my chest freezer and have been unable to bulk buy.

However, reading this I have made a note in my 2007 diary to go Christmas food shopping at around 12.30-1pm on Christmas Eve next year so I can get some bargains; thanks for the tips/info
