Prospect of rain has me worried sick...

I don't know why but now I've finished work and am on the three day countdown the prospect of rain on the day has me in bits. OH is trying to make me feel better about it but I feel gutted, we chose a beautiful venue for a reason, gorgeous flower gardens, not to be stuck indoors all day
my biggest thing is that even though I know it probably wont rain all day I wont feel happy about my dress getting dirty; we wanted outdoor pics and I don't want to hitch it up (it doesn't bustle) but I've always been a neat freak and know I'll be gutted if it gets wet and dirty as it's not like the muck will brush off.
I've thought about plastic sheeting but wondered if anyone has experience of this and any tips, I'm sure its symptomatic of my general wedding anxiety and I probably sound really pathetic but it's really worrying me, I'm trying to think bigger picture and what it's all really about but I still have this nagging voice about the blumming weather!
BTW I have a history of spoiling big events with my control freakery but don't want to feel in any way regretful after our big day

I know this is not much help but I feel the same - wedding in two weeks. If it's any consolation just think that it does not matter if the bottom of the dress gets dirty - you will never wear it again and your photographer will just photoshop it clean in the official photos!0

im thinking the same and i will be gutted. mines 2 weeks and 2 days away
theres nothing we can do to control or change it and that upsets me!Is a married woman!! 23rd July 2011 Best day of my life!

I went out and bought umberellas the day before my wedding as the forecast was really bad. In the end it was sunny all day and the umberellas are still in their plastic wrap!
Dont worry about the rain, what will be will be. I have been to 3 family weddings in the last 3 years and it rained at them all. At each wedding there was a dry spell long enough to get outside and take photos, all of which were perfect and you would have no idea it had been belting it down earlier. Just hitch your dress up, have someone help you carry it outside then once you're in position for the photos put it down again. If you're stood fairly still the worst you'll get is a bit of water on the underneath. Just dont drag it about on the wet ground.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
I started looked at umbrellas last night on ebay :rotfl: My wedding is 2 weeks on saturday, and the weather forecast changes all the time anyway.
The ceremony is literally over the road from my mums house, and we will be driving to the reception venue at the other end of town anyways. I would like to have photos taken outside the ceremony venue, and in the local park, but if it doesn't happen then thats ok. Am trying to stay chilled about the whole thing.
I'm a control freak too, and like my lists and organisation etc. But the weather is just gonna do what it wants. Am determined not to go bridezilla and have it 'ruin' my day, as the only thing that would ruin the day is me having a bridezilla fit, lol!! A bit of rain seriously won't hurt anyone... Just try and keep telling yourself this, like I do :rotfl:
ps, I don't think i'd go for a plastic sheet underneath. Reckon that would make it more obvious on photos. I think even if it does rain you will get large spells where its not raining. At the minute the rain seems to be coming down in short but heavy spells and the sun shines lots inbetween the rain.

My dress got filthy when I got married.
It hadn't rained, infact it was a glorious day! It happened when I walked the length of the hotel where they'd not long watered all the huge hanging baskets, then went to have photos taken on grass. Water and grass = mud! And lots of it!
I didn't give a stuff about my dress by that point, I was floating on air!
Try not to worry too much or on the day you'll be wondering why you even bothered to worry!
The MOST important thing is that you and your fiance marry.
Everything else doesn't matter at all xTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
This is the gutting thing about the UK unpredictable weather.i to will be gutted on my day but there is nothing you can do,what will be will be.i will pray for good weather for you and keep everything crossed.try not to let it ruin your day if the weather is rubbish, its your one special day0

I should have also said, I know exactly what you ladies feel like, I'd bought a bridal umbrella and crossed my fingers for weeks beforehand!
If someone had told me the night before the wedding it was going to rain, I think I would have had kittens!
The day itself it so different though, it's like a dreamworld, where things that go wrong, you don't care about in the slightest because they don't matter at all xxTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I too was so worried about it raining as it was forecast to, i bought white brollies ready and just as we were leaving for the church in the horse and carriage it started spitting then stopped again and held off until just after the pictures at the church and then it absolutely belted down! We were in the horse and carriage for about 45 minutes getting soaked (we had to hold the umbrella over our youngest as he decided it was a good time to have a nap!)
I thought I was going to be absolutely devastated if it rained but I was sooooo happy it didn't bother me in the slightest
It's a shame my hair was a bit flat in the photos at the reception but at the time I really wasn't worried at all! [STRIKE]Getting married to[/STRIKE] Married my soul mate on

Having the same fears! The gardens are the main reason we choose the venue! We talked to the wedding organiser at the venue and now have an APlan, B plan and C plan.A is if dry on the day we can get married outside anywhere. B is if been wet the day before anywhere with a hard surface i.e has paving C is if it's absolutely pouring then indoors. Also talk to your photographer pursumely he/she worked at the venue before they've probably come across this before. I would talk to them both and also to your dress supplier they might be able to fix a loop or hook to lift up the dress when you walk. Also umbrellas guests will bring their own generally photographers often supply them but it worth checking! And there are company where you can hire them. best of luck I'm sure it will be fine beside which if it does rain it's considered lucky:kisses3: Married 29th September 2012

I was a bit bothered about the weather...we're having a marquee wedding in 3 weeks, it's a very summer colour scheme, so sunshine will really make the day pop.
Then however, I read this, in a book of wedding readings the vicar gave us:
"Sharing one umbrella,
We have to hold each other,
Round the waist to keep together,
You ask me why I'm smiling-
It's because I'm thinking,
I want it to rain forever."
— Vicki Feaver
Now I love the idea of a picture of the two of us cuddling under an umbrella, with that written next to it in the wedding album...We'll make the best of any weather
