No idea where to post this at all, please feel free to move if needs be!
My company have their AGM coming up, location & theme decided months ago 'post war England' a kind of hint to the (hopefuly) good times ahead but belts still need to be tightened a sort of "keep calm and carry on" thing.
Anyways...... wanting the best of britsh (for a mainly Europeon crowd) we decided to go down the fish'n'chips route not too £££ but decent grub...skips forward a bit.
Today I made a joke that it was a shame we coldn't put a collage of good headlines and articles together for the the wrappings which were going to be standard 'fake' newspaper, which while not expecting anyone to read, might send them some kind of subliminal message.
Me and my HUGE mouth!!!!
He jumped on it and like a dog with a bone will not drop it.
I suggested we can print them then add a layer of greaseproof between but this didnt seem to go down to well. Although he is Swedish and has probably never had F&C's out of the paper in his life (I dont believe there is a Chip shop with a Michelin Star yet!!)
Where can we get these printed?
Who prints the papers that they wrap F&C's in?
ANY HELP at all be much appreicated.
A fantastic idea come up with too late (typical!) I have about a month to source, get printed etc!
Thanks in advance

Fish and chips usually come in expanded polystyrene trays. The paper wrap is plain.
If want to visit a top quality chip shop try Georges Tradition. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

This is a (almost) new thing though, they used come all wrapped up in newspaper (although as far as I can remember there was white paper inbetween the print) and Im only 35!I wish I would take my own advice!0 -
It will almost certainly contravene food hygiene laws to use newspapers these days. Today's newspaper, tomorrow's chip paper. Not likely any more.AT 1st SEPTEMBER 2009

the closest thing you'll probably get is a poster printer, but it would be a lot of work rewrapping all those bags of chips lolEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0

Talk to your local newspaper - they have presses, paper etc to do the job. But how many are we talking? Thousands, hundreds or tens? The proper process cost is mostly setup costs making the plate, and 100 and 10000 sheets will cost almost the same! But ask them, they may be able to do you a short run, and give you the real deal.
As for the legality, I'd probably stick an unprinted layer in there too, to keep the ink off the chips.0 -
You can probably still get those chip cones that have fake newspaper articles on the outside, will those suffice? If not I like your original idea of doing a mock paper and wrapping this around the chip bag.
If you really have to have authenticity you can buy old newspapers online but that could be pricey and you'd still have to use them to wrap around a chip bag and not use them directly.0 -
One of the reasons for not using newspaper was the possible toxic qualities of the newsprint. (e.g News of the Screws)That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I'm wondering if it would be better to purchase one 'Tabloid Wrap' from a company such as here you could personalise it to meet your needs and them consider photocopying on A3 or bigger and just having the one sheet on the outer of the chips.
Also, have a look for a local takeaway wholesaler as they sell the plain paper used for wraping chips. You may be able to buy just a small amount.0 -
I always thought the reason you couldn't use newspapers any more was for reasons of hygiene, ie because the papers had been handled (rather than that the newsprint was toxic.)
Depending on numbers might it be cheaper to place a wholesale order for some of these from Maxwell and Williams?

Could you not do your own 'paper' and wrap it round a poly chip cone....?0
