It is possible to have your current lease extended by two years, which i did with a zafira because i would not be able to afford the payment for a new car i had the lease extended and it was five years old when i had to hand it back,
if you get in touch with motability they might consider this for you.0 -

I had one of these Galaxy's on hire a couple of months ago and they are awesome, excellent car loads of room and the td is unreal it flies literally
I hope one of these is some help to you I really do
It would also be worth having a look in your local Vauxhall dealer our local dealer has been advertising Zafira's with a £500 deposit for a couple of months now.
Best of luck to you I hope you manage to work something out.
*EDIT*
The Touran is a raving bargain BTW
No one deserves a grant for a car bigger than they need, charities need to target their limited amount of money to the people who need it, not want it like the OP.
Loseing both legs or the use of them isnt unusual for people awarded HRM and he hasnt lost an arm or even the use of an arm (maybe you could learn to read) and even if he had he certainly wouldnt make him the only person claiming DLA to have, I offered him advice on how to keep on the road when you are severly disabled because I have the expereince to back that up (unlike you), you gave a list of AP's which isnt relevent since he has been rightly refused a grant (again maybe you should learn to read and you would have gathered that too)
I mentioned he can walk because that opens up more possibilities to keep on the road, many of us dont have that choice to use hoist etc. (and he own's the hoist currently in his car btw) and its a much cheaper option than things like my Paravan (which is bought and paid for by me, me alone) because it, the charity certainly cant afford to provide everyone who cant use their legs at all and have very, very limited use of the rest of their body (like me) with £65-£70K cars (even second hand) and my car will offer my some freedom because I can drive from new powerchair when my crash tested one gets delivered this week.0 -

Thing is Motability dictate that the car is changed at 3 years. I was having trouble trying to find a suitable vehicle this time with a minimal advance payment (need an auto, no adaptations, but suitable for my small stature). As you say, the advance payments on Autos have shot up.
Anyway, as I absolutely LOVE my current car, I did ask if I could extend the lease and keep it another 2 years, but I couldn't because I have covered more than 15K miles. They will only extend the lease if the mileage is less than that - certainly on un-adapted vehicles.
It's all to do with motability getting maximum 2nd hand value for them I guess.
As it is, I'm downsizing for my next motability car, and my hubby is selling his 7 year-old car to buy my 3 year-old ex-motability vehicle.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -

i cant remember what the milage was when i had my lease extended but it was only 20k on the clock when i handed it back after five years,0

30 MPG doesn't sound bad to me for an automatic seven seater with added weight especially if it's mainly short local journeys you are doing. I'm no expert but I'd be surprised if a different car would gain you anything at all.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0

On a slightly different but related note, there are a number of grants available (but very often forgotten about or not known about) for those who receive the War Pensioners Mobility Supplement and lease a car from Motability.
If the War Pensioner needs an automatic car due to their accepted disability, then there is a grant available from the Service Personnel & Veterans Agency (SPVA) of upto £660.00 to cover the difference in the 'Advance Payment' between the manual and automatic versions of the same vehicle model/trim level. If the difference between the manual and automatic is less than £660 then the grant covers the actual difference. If the difference is more than £660, then the War Pensioners pays any amount over and above the £660 grant. This grant is not means tested in any way.
Also the SPVA have further grants to cover the costs (upto certain limits) of any adaptations needed for the vehicle, such as hand controls, ramps, hoists, left foot accelerators etc etc. Again these are not means tested in any way.
If you think these grants may apply contact the SPVA on 0800 169 2277 before ordering your vehicle.
Having spoken to War Pensioners it seems that a lot of Motability 'Specialists' at car dealers seem unaware of these grants and how to go about obtaining them. There is also financial help available (usually means tested) with the Advance Payment costs via the relevant service charities such as ABF, H4H, RBL, BLESMA etc.0 -
Most of those taking delivery of a new Motability vehicle will be passported to PIP before the end of the vehicle term. The declared intention of PIP is to save [ 20% ] money, scoring sufficient points in the mobility activities test to earn the higher [ enhanced ] mobility component will certainly be made tougher for the 1.8 million working-age DLA claimants.
PIP assessment testing will continue summer on the draft criteria on current adult recipients of DLA, assessment testing for children has not yet even been designed, there is no specific child assessment to apply the PIP to children.
NOTE
- a primary reason for current DLA application failures is the test now includes PIP components
- mobility component standard rate – limited - mobility component enhanced rate - severely limitedDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
