Its a good car, don't get me wrong, I would keep it if it wasn't for the fuel consumption and the issues I have had with the hand controls. Motability offer the cars on a 3 year lease and offer you a new one every 3 years, no matter what your disability is and some cost nothing while some cost thousands.you would only get a grant towards the cheapest options and the cars you have mentioned certainly arn't the cheapest option and you cant even top up the grant towards a diffrent car, you get what they say or no grant at all and thats as it should be, if you can find extra money to add to the grant that shouldnt allow you a better car but a smaller (if any) grant.
If I was to get a 5 seater car then the back 3 seats would be removed so that the hoist could fit and I could get my wheelchair in the back, whilst a 7 seater gives me the option of only having the back seats removed, leaving me with a 5 seater.
As for the options I listed not being the cheapst, I would be to differ, if you could find me a 7 seater that is Automatic, giving me atleast 35mpg which would accommodate a powered wheelchair then I am all ears but I have not seen any.
As for being able to afford it, Im 25, left law school in September, have a undergraduate degree and stil can't find work.
I would give up my benefits if I could get a job that I could do but its not the case and not everyone who has a disability is like the guy you mentioned in you post. Im sure the majority of disabled people would gladly give there benefits up for a chance of a normal, honest and hard working life.0 -

When you can afford what you want no one else can stop you but Motability Grants is a Charity and you wont get a grant at all because you dont have a family or job, thats the way it is!
You dont need a seven seater, you WANT one and single people without a job dont even enter the grant's radar (another forum user discovered this last weekfrom the grants department) , you wont get a grant for a 7 seater if/when you get a job either and nor should you when there is a very limited pot of money which has to help as many people as possible.
We would all like to just get on with life but we cant, I cant use a hoist in the rear of a car (I wish!), you must be able to walk from the rear to the drivers door so you have many more options than I have but Ive found away to keep on the road despite my legs not working at all and my arms bearly able to move but it dosnt come as a nice, shiney new car which is what you said you are looking forward to in post one.
There are ways to manage when you really want to, buy your current car from Motability, lease it for another 2 years or get a small auto and arrange for the hoist to be fitted to it with the back seats removed (you will have to pay for the move as its your hoist now), you can buy the car you want when you can afford it just like anyone else, disabled or not.0 -
Hi, well I need a Car that can take a powered wheelchair in the back and still have 5 seats left so always go for a 7 seater or a big boot car, it has to be automatic too and have a 4 way driver seat as I lost both my legs and right hand due to Meningitis in 1999.

:silenced:I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
thanks for your comments but I know that I can get what i want when I have the money to do so and as for getting a grant for a seven seater, that I can get if they had the funds to do so as they had before.
What you don't understand is that I need a seven seater not because of family needs (i have no kids or a partner) but need the space to have my wheelchair (which is a powered one that can not fold)to fit in the back, a carer and all my wheelchair bits/ any luggage and shopping etc. A small auto will not enable me to take the wheelchair with me and without a power wheelchair I can walk more than 3 meters on my prosthetic legs without extreme pain but i'm not hear to argue. Just wanted to let people know and find out if alternative funding routes are available but it seems not.
I've spoken to them today and they said that they will extend the lease for another year and hopefully i can apply for a grant then and they have said that it will be for a automatic seven seater or a large boot five seater that they can adapt to keep all five seats so I'm happy with that.0 -

You are not the only powerchair user who drives or person that needs people, shopping etc. and as Ive said grants provide the bare minimum for any suitable vehicle which will get you mobile and you can get mobile in a small auto at any time. They wont pay to adapt your cars forever which seems to be what you are expecting (thinking things will change in just a year lol) and they certainly wont pay for the cars of your choice forever, most disabled people pay for their own adaptions no matter how much they cost and yours are minimal adaptions from what you have posted that still dont offer you independance which really defeats the object of the charitable arm of Matability.0 -

It is not a competiton to see "who is the most disabled" you fool! Read the OP's posts PROPERLY and get off you soap box!
The op has LOST both his legs and an arm due to meningitus (think that is how you spell it) not you you who simply "cannot move them some days!" crikey YOU DONT DESERVE an grant or 7 seater because you can still walk you disrespectful fool!
OP I dont know the answer to your question and am genuinely sorry I cannot offer you any advice I understand what you are saying and what you need and find it astonishing you cannot get the adaptations you need in order for you to have a new car. See your local MP maybe?
I can however offer you a few more choices car wise sure in the long run to be better than the Nissan.................
