Can I use expired passport as ID?

Why not? A passport that has been cancelled will have one corner cut off.
So having just gotten married the misses has 2 old expired passports in her maiden name which are in tact, one old passport that was cancelled due the name change and the corner is cut off and her new passport.0 -
I have been refused by a company to use that as ID before. Luckily I do have a Driving License that is still in date even though its Provisional.
You can apply for the Age Card which is only a few pounds. Much cheaper and is accepted as valid UK ID I believe.0 -

Anyone can get a driving license whether they are legally here or not. All an illegal immigrant needs to do is change their foreign license for a UK one. Same with NIN. They may have had the right to work previously (maybe a temporary work visa) and have now lost that right to work. I use my birth certificate and a letter from the DWP as ID.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I don't see how either a driving licence or an Age Card prove your right to work in the UK. They may help establish that you are who you say you are, but you'd need your full UK birth certificate to establish that you're entitled to work here.
Apologies. Whenever I have been asked I provide both my Driving license AND my Birth Certificate. Most haven't just accept the Birth Certificate on its own as proof and require some sort of Photo ID as well.0 -
