Admiral car insurance !!!! up

My car was stolen 8th may following my house being burgaled so I was forced to make a claim on my Admiral car insurance (3rd party fire and theft). They told me over the phone there and then that I was also covered for up to £100 for both the child's car seat and satnav that were in the car. I was told to send in a copy of my sat nav receipt to claim for it. My car was later found and as suspected my satnav gone! I spoke with Admiral several times on the phone each person confirming that I was covered for £100 cover of sat Nav. In the meantime my house insurance offered to replace my sat nav but because I had already started my claim through the car insurance, being an honest law abiding citizen I declined and informed them that Admiral were dealing with it. 2months later (bearing in mind the day earlier they had again confirmed that the £100 nsat nav cheque was on its way) Admiral inform me (after I rang them to reinstate my cover) that I was never covered for the Sat Nav. By this time my house insurance claim had been done and I can no longer claim for the Sat Nav that way. As you can imagine I was furious and upset as by doing the right thing and by being falsely mislead by several employees I have now lost out (not to mention the fact that it was stoeln in the first place!!) A senior person from Admiral rang me back and in 'good will' issued me a cheque of £50 (which doesnt buy a sat nav). I am now in a dilemma. Do I cash the cheque and accept that I have been ripped off/mislead? Or do I fight for every penny....and how do I do so??? Any comments will be greatly recieved. Thanks x

Have they advised why your not covered? The £100 payment they 'would' be making is just under the personal effects part of the policy.

If they "confirmed it was covered up to £100" then those calls must legally have been recorded as all insurers are required to record all calls. I guess the question is why have they given £50 rather than £100. Do they claim the device wasnt valued at £100 or something else?

Ultimately if this was said on the phone and you can prove its value it will be a straight forward case for the FoS to deal with and you should make Admiral aware that it is the route you intend to take.

I dont think insurers LEGALLY have to record calls do they? =/ As a lot of call recording systems don't record every single call, lots get lost. Also, I know some insurance brokers that don't record them

It was introduced in the ICOB rules that insurers were required to record calls to customers. I havent been close to them since they were first introduced and so this may have been relaxed since then

you state you have 3rd party fire and theft.
your getting exactly what you are paying for.
ie theres no 3rd party involved
for arguments say. your driving along some one hits you from behind you`d have no claim cause there isnt a 3rd party involved.if some was to hit them which meant they hit you then ud be fine.
thats the way it goes with 3rd party insurance.
as for satnav and car seat.basically you should claim on house insurance.
i had my golf clubs stolen from car a few years back couldnt claim.fixed car myself as they just popped the boot lock.got a crime number from police still wouldnt touch me on car insurance.tried it on house contents insurance low and behold you have to have a seperate policy for that type of thing.dosent come under house contents.so i got !!!!ed both ways £700 worth of golf equipement down the drain.check your policys peps.

The issue is that several employees falsely mislead me to believe that I was covered when I wasnt which meant I didnt make a claim on my house insurance (which I was covered for!) and now it's too late! They offered me £50 as a good will gesture-no reason was given why it couldnt be £100. I am thinking of putting the complaint in writing and then forwarding it to Admiral and the Financial Ombustion (or however you spell it). Thanks for 'some of your help'.

The hint is in the title... Third party fire & THEFT

Car stolen, sat nav stolen. Should be able to claim under the policy

    The policy booklet states

    "3 Personal belongings
We will pay up to £100 for personal belongings in your car if they are damaged or stolen"

If an insurer denies a claim they need to give you a valid reason for this... I'd get back on the phone and ask for the reason why as if they have raised the cheque there needs to be a reason why it was cancelled.

Motor policybooks however normally cover TPO, FTO, TPFT and Comp policies. In your schedule it will state which sections of the policybook apply to your policy. Naturally if you have anything other than Comp then some of the sections will not apply. In many cases TPFT and FTO cover will not include the personal belongings section.

What is the issue is more the fact they were confirmed cover by the claims handlers who have then retracted that.

Welcome to moneysavingexpert! I've been lucky to escape this in my threads, but I've read enough of other people's threads to realise that there are a load of people who have nothing better to do than post worthless comments on this forum. Just ignore them, if you respond it makes them think that what they are doing is worthwhile.
Sorry I can't actually help with your issue though. :(
