I think the bread keeps quite nicely for 4-5 days. If you don't eat as much only make smaller 1lb loaves instead. I bung stale ends in my processor (got a smoothie maker for christmas so that's another gadget) and use the breadcrumbs to stretch meals.
Tif I might have a go at the baileys this weekend so I'll let you know how I get on.0 -
i *think* its 2/3 days maximum as it has none of the preservatives etc that shop bought bread has......but ive never had any left longer than next day......normally we do a loaf in a morning and its gone by evening with sarnies for work, toast etc either that or its gone by lunchtime next day.....but im sure my instruction booklet that came with it says 3 days max.0

I've eaten home made bread on the 3rd day and it was ok, but by day 4 it wasn't very nice. It's ok for toast or fried bread though, or making breadcrumbs as suggested, or croutons. Here I go again on my own....0

I toasted some bread today that had been made on saturday and it was fine!0 -
Our gadgets are
breadmaker (used often)
popcorn maker (occassional)
candy floss maker (rarely)
smoothie maker (a kids one still unopened!)
posh coffee maker (not used for over 1 year)
mixer (occassional)
food processor (regular use)
dualit toaster (regular) also has a bit that you can make toasted sandwiches in
coffee grinder (regular) does that count?
think thats it!0 -
Right, will definitely look into getting a breadmaker now! I think Lakeland do a compact one - my kitchen is about the size of a phone box so it had better be small!'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0

I have these:
slow cooker
breadmaker
sandwich toaster (20 plus years old!)
coffee percolator
espresso/cappucino maker
fryer
juicer
stick blender
food processor
toaster
rice cooker
microwave
dont have an electric kettle have a stove top one to save space, and luckily I have big cupboards to fit all this stuff in! The only thing that's on the worktop all the time besides the microwave is the toaster and i think thats a waste of space really, as my cooker already has a grill!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Ooh, I love gadgets and I'd have them all if I had the money and the space for storage.
I've got:
Popcorn maker: Much more economical than the microwave sort
Ancient but efficient sandwich toaster
Blender: Gets used all the time for homemade soups etc
Electric hand whisk: much easier than making cakes by hand
Two cafetieres: This is what happens when no-one follows your wedding list!
The usual kettle and toaster
Microwave: Useful but not essential, considering how much space it takes up
Little milk frother whisk: Gets used surprisingly often, good for hot chocolate or cupasoups
I really want:
Stick blender
George Formby grill so I don't have to use the oven for one bacon butty
Slow cooker will be useful when I go back to work
Would be nice:
Bread machine because I never got the hand of home baked bread
Electric steamer for healthy cooking
Smoothie maker because you can make slushy ****tails in it!
It's not exactly a gadget, but I've always fancied one of those huge walk-in American fridges.
Edit: I just discovered the forum doesn't let me type the word c 0 c k t a i l s to describe mixed alcoholic drinks!0 -

Sorry, sorry, had to do it.;)
I read somewhere about whether you 'need' these gadgets given what most of us already have in the kitchen. (Which or some such publication) They said that the George Foreman type grills are no better at reducing fat than your ordinary grill. Unless, of course, your grill is like mine and !!!!!! /on its last legs. If I had to buy another one, I'd get one with removeable plates for washing as I find if you grill low fat products anyway, there isn't that much to run off and the meat juices tend to come out and caramelise on the plates so you still have to lug it over to the sink and carefully wash it.
The electric steamers are not any better than the stackable pans but I like mine if we're having a lot of steamed veggies as it keeps my hobs clear and given the dreadful design of my kitchen and uselessness of my hob (and oven and grill) this is a major asset.
Just a couple of thoughts from someone who already uses them:D0
