Bah Humbug - my wallet and presents stolen :( - Updated - been visited by angels! :)

Am feeling rather upset atm. Went into town today to get last few bits and bobs. Did most of it, and went to last shop to get stocking fillers (Hawkins Bazaar - fantastic shop!). Put bag down and reached up to look at something, decided not to have it, put item back and looked round for bag but it was gone. Had Christmas presents, and wallet in, complete with bank cards, driving licence, some money and a card my eldest gave me last Christmas
Fortunately due to this board, I have only lost about 35 quid all in, as I've done the majority of my shopping already, but it's 35 quid I just can't afford to lose in my present situation
Reported it to the police, managed to get bank to give me money without ID, (yay for telephone banking), and tried to rebuy everything
Couldn't get dh's present again as it had sold out, nor the exact same of some of the other stuff which was annoying.

To top it all off, when I got back I have got parking ticket.
Should be at work atm but they took pity and sent me home as I feel rubbish. Feel guilty though as need the wages and an extra shift to cover the money I lost.
Ho hum. Worse things happen at sea!
Oh, on a good note, as I was bawling pathetically cos I thought my kids weren't going to have anything from santa, two folks came up independantly and asked if I was ok. So there are some nice folks out there. :T

sorry to hear about your experience.
i had my purse stolen a few years ago, and i was lucky enough that the man running the market stall chased the woman and got it back, but the shock aftewards, made me feel so sick and angry that someone would have the balls to do such a thing...
on the plus side, like you said.. atleast you were able to prevent it costing you more... i have phone banking, but i don't have a clue what my passwords are... i use internet banking all the time, so if i had my wallet stolen, i'd be lost.Missysx

Sit yourself down Brassic and make yourself a nice cuppa or a glass of something medicinal. You must be in shock after the day you've had.
You can have a look for presents in the sales at knock down price, I'm sure the recipients won't mind waiting till after Christmas under the circumstances.0 -
If there is one thing I hate more than anything it's thieves!
I know it's little consoltation but you are going to be spending your Xmas with your family and loved ones why hopefully these losers are killing themselves on crack.

Sorry to hear about this, something similar happened to me this time last year, I had over £600 worth in presents, cash and vouchers stolen when shopping, aswell as all my cards and ID, and my partners Tuesday before Xmas. I really know how you feel, I cried for the rest of the day on and off. Bank refused to allow cash over counter and was Xmas Eve when I finally got a card.
Have you contacted the shop and the local council to ask if there is any CCTV in operation? One day I might be more organised...........

How low to nick someone's christmas presents, I hope you are feeling a bit better now and it doesn't spoil your Christmas.
Years ago my dad's car got broken into on Christmas Eve outside church when they were in Midnight Mass, there was nothing on display but loads of stuff in the boot as they were coming to mine with my children's presents afterwards.
My mum was heartbroken as all her presents to her grandchildren were stolen and she couldn't replace them as all the shops were shut.0 -
Awww, thanks chaps. I don't normally drink but I might follow your advice I'mComingBackAsAMan and have a brandy, purely for medicinal purposes of course

Have been in contact with the store, banks and police, and have to say everyone has been really lovely and helpful. No cctv sadly, but police say they'll place an advert in the papers. Doubt it'll achieve anything but worth a shot.
Thanks again for the support!Debts @ lightbulb moment (13/06/2006) - £59,842.23  All commercial debts now clear!!! :T Debts April - £20,000 to family (incl extra £10k borrowed for house deposit). DFD - Aug 2014

Trust me I had the same response from the Metro Centre and stores I visited where mine was taken, not enough time to go through it more like! I can believe that is the response you got, but maybe not that they don't have any!One day I might be more organised...........
