Real time share prices

I use Google finance to keep track of share prices but as you probably know there's a 15 minute delay. I can't find anywhere that gives me real time information besides my stock brokers. The only problem with getting it from my stock brokers is that I have to trick it. With HSBC I set up an order to buy shares and it gives me the reall time price of what it will cost me. The problem with this is that I keep getting logged out and I have to manually create an order to preview it.

If I was able to get an XML feed that would be PERFECT as I'm a programmer so I can write something useful to display the information. Otherwise, a webpage which updates automatically would be good.

For real time you usually need to pay. 15min delay are free. This is because London Stock Exchange charge to use their services.

There maybe a few websites which give it free if you signup: http://www.advfn.com/ (never used them, they could be total crap, but I've just taken it off another thread)

Why do you want real-time prices? What are you tracking?

Because if I look at prices from 15 minutes ago then if it drops rapidly, by the time I buy them, they could've risen back up.

Ah ok, so you are trading shares? What sort of time frame are you trading? To be honest whilst I have been trading CFD's I have always had live prices due to the shorter timeframes of the trades - however trading physical shares for investment purposes I could do without live prices.

I use IG Markets on a CFD platform - it costs £4 per month (IIRC) for live LSE if you do not trade through the platform - so you could use that for live prices and buy through your broker platform as usual? To be honest though it is a bit of a bind - if you are worried about 15 minutes worth of share movement then you are trading very short term positions?

Yes doing short term trading can be buying and selling within the same day or if not usually within the week. Buying while it's low and selling when it's higher. Not interested in long term investment. Barclays has done me quite well in the past month.

Well in that case I have used III's Level 2 platform before - its about £20 per month iirc. As stated I currently use IG Markets for CFD's but am not trading phyiscal shares atm so don't need anything else. I used to have access to Reuters and Bloomberg but those days are over for now:)

Set up a (free) account on www.advfn.com or www.moneyam.com (might as well sign up with both). There are one or two others which I can't recall at the moment, but those are the best-known.

Yes, there are sites like:

or

but they usually time out after a few minutes.

They do for me, though I think you have to register to get it.
