Transferred car insurance to new car so how can i sell my old car

I've bought a newer car and transferred the car insurance over to it. However, I need to sell my old car and first of all take it to a garage for some repairs. The problem now is that although my insurance policy covers me to drive any vehicle owned by others, there has to be a valid policy in force otherwise I can get prosecuted for using without insurance. Has anyone any ideas other than taking out an additional temporary policy which is very costly?
The web site https://www.askMID.com confirms that my old car is now off the insurance database. So a police ANPR will pick it up.

Ask the garage to pick it up and deliver it back to you when they are done.

As above add it as a temporary car if you want potential buyers to be able to drive without their own fully comp insurance- be aware though that some insurance companies rip the p*ss a bit with this and will try and charge you the monthly premium again on top to cover it, unfortunately you don't have much choice.

You are now liable to a penalty for not using it having no insurance. It needs to be SORNed and kept off road until insurance is obtained. The garage need to transport it or use trade plates.

As above. I've been stuck with this. Had to SORN the car due to Endsleigh insurance being a bunch of robbing expletives so now no one can test drive it and one of the main sale points (loads of tax) has gone! Grrr.

    5t.

SORN it and sell it as seen and on the understanding that it is 'trailer'd' away by the buyer or they arrange their own insurance first.

i wish i had as much spare money as you. Must be nice being able to sell a fully working car as sold as seen and trailered away - ie spares or repairs

    Exactly the issue!

Plus I can't get temp insurance for the old one as it is over 15 years old. It is a runabout, bought to go to work and back. Not worth much but perfectly good car. However, no one will buy it without a test drive so I look set to take scrap value for it.

you could go for a new policy, pay monthly and then cancel when the cars sold.
