If the company doesn't ask about BR, and you are discharged then I'm pretty sure you don't have to tell them

I would be interested to know if this is true please. Does it make much differance to insurance if you are discharged or not?

You will find that companies are far more accepting to discharged BRs than undischarged BRs, although there are a few that will eithe decline to quote or quote so high as to force you to go elsewhere.
If you're looking for a definitive answer as to whether you need to tell your insurance company then ask them.
