Are texts from UK to Spain free (T-Mobile)?

I've been texting a friend who went to Spain on holiday, and my T-Mobile is showing the cost as being £0 per text but I thought it cost money to text abroad? I'm not gonna get charged suddenly am I (maybe an issue with T-Mobile's online billing)?
I always thought there was a charge, but will it cost them to receive the texts instead?
The reason I'm asking, is that I got a free text saying I can have a free reward, and one of them was "40 free international texts"
It's not part of my contract either AFAIK

If it's a uk mobile abroad it'll come from your normal sms allowance, if it's a spanish mobile then it should come from your international allowance. UK roaming mobiles are not charged to receive sms.0

You never get charged for texting a UK number that is overseas.
The reason is simple; you aren't to know that that phone happens to be overseas.
As above, if you text your friend on a Spanish number in Spain then you would be charged, but a British number in Spain is no problem.0 -
Ah that would make sense then, it is a UK number. Didn't think about that

Then it will be at your usual text rate, or out of your inclusive allowance. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

What about the other way round? My son is going to Kos tomorrow, he's got a Vodafone contract phone and I have a Utility Warehouse (piggy back on T Mobile) sim only deal. Both of us have unlimited texts deals. Do his texts to me cost him anything? TIA!0

Yes. he will be roaming as he is in another country. So his text to you will cost whatever the roaming rate is.MillicentBystander wrote: »What about the other way round? He cant use his inclusive UK texts abroad.
If he signs up free for Voda Passport they will cost him 11p

However Customers on price plans costing £40 a month or more (with at least 900 minutes) get an allowance of 10 standard text messages a day which can be used anywhere in our Europe zone. These are in addition to the UK text messages included in there price plan.
Or he could buy a bundle
"Text bundle
Pay Monthly customers on any other Vodafone price plan can buy an allowance of 10 standard text messages a day to be used anywhere in our Europe zone for just £10 a month."0 -
Many thanks for the info, jhp and mrcamp. As he's 'only' on a £26/mth deal he's opted into Voda passport now and has promised his mum he will be regularly texting!
To be fair, the cost for an up to 60 minute call is very reasonable at 75p (if I've read that right
)
