Universal Remotes

I'm sure I cant be the only one and if one doesnt exist I'm claiming intellectual property rights and will make a fortune.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a universal TV remote that enables you to lock the volume control?

Kids seem to think that if its not loud enough for me to hear downstairs then its needs turning up. I'm growing tired of shouting as they just dont get it an the excuse that its coming on too high and they dont realise to turn it down doesnt wash with me though the Mrs believes it.

get a pair of pliers and pull the volume buttons off the remote you have.
    Sorted

or just take the remote off them, either way they will just turn the volume up via the tv.

Remove the TV for a few days (or take out the fuse at least) you will get a few days of silence (if they are teenagers not only silence from no TV , but not talking to you either) & when you return it they magically know how to use the volume control:rotfl:

Surely a post-it note stuck over the receiver will suffice?

If you had a One For All or Logitech Harmony universal remote you could remove the volume up function or replace it with a different remote function - it won't be able to prevent them from using the controls on the actual TV though.

Another option would be to get a remote signal extender so that you could turn the volume of their TV down from somewhere else in the house.

So could program both the "volume up" and "volume down" keys to turn the volume down! That'll teach 'em not to crank it up again!

Very easily with a Logitech all in one as you can reassign buttons in the PC software :)

I have the "channel up and down" buttons on my remote programmed to act as TV volume controls when I'm watching a DVD or Blu-ray (it defaults to them being chapter skip/back, and the volume buttons controlling my surround system).

    Kids...
Are you seriously asking for a technical method of outwitting children? I reckon you're on a loser... :(

On our last TV (can't remember the make but it was an early 42" Plasma) there was a function in the TV menu to set the max volume. Worth having a look through your to see whether it's lurking somewhere in the menus

If it's a Sky box you are using, I think it has an output volume too, so you could set that to a lower level and let the kids do the TV's volume.
