Being 'evicted' - Housing Association

They can up and move you when they wish too here and it does happen quite a lot. Only good point is you will be re housed, BUT
I can imagine it being awful especially after a long time of being there, setting up a home and having a fab neighbourhood to go with it
It would be nice to move you ALL together if they could but still not a nice thing to have happen.
Fingers crossed you can get something sorted out. Let us know how you get on with it all.
Thanks savingmummy! My brain is fried at the mo. We're all trying to gather info and some of us def don't want to move while a couple of us would if made the right offer. I think I'll let my hubby deal with this one!*Look for advice, not 'advise'*

OK, it's an assured tenancy.likelyfran wrote: »Hi poppy, the wording specifies that the tenancy is 'assured weekly and NOT assured shorthold as specified by Housing Act 1988'. Whatever that means!
How much notice have they given you to move out?
Was it a formal notice to quit or just a letter requesting that you move out?
Does the letter state the specific ground they would use if they did seek a court order requiring possession? See for example this letter from Reading council requiring possession under ground 10A of the Housing Act 1985, whereby the properties are being disposed of in a statutory redevelopment scheme.
A few more details would be helpful - if you could scan the letter you received (blanking out any personal details) it might help clear things uppoppy100 -
It's an assured tenancy, which is generally considered to be as secure as renting gets.
If you want more security than that, then you need to own.
However nothing in life is completely secure, not even homeowning, as the govt could always decide to build a road or something and seek a compulsory purchase order.
Anyway.... you can fight it, but you're immensely unlikely to win. Best shot is media and lobbying... The chances are it won't stop the sale, although you might get a bit more compensation for moving, a bit more time, and perhaps more choice of where to go. HA's and councils don't like bad publicity, use that to your advantage. The YMCA won't like bad publicity either, for that matter, so start kicking up a fuss and see if it gets you anywhere.

Hi Poppy, no, no timescale at all was given. Very unprofessionally done letter with the barest of details. Believe me, me scanning it and putting it on here is not going to clear anything up.
We, the residents, have looked into grounds for what they are doing and it seems that the one they are using is the demolition/improvements one. One of the residents is taking advice from Shelter and a letter is being composed by him on behalf of us all trying to establish where the HA are coming from in more depth as further detail on whether it's commercially driven etc. will cast more light on what we can/should do. He wanted to take that job on and hopefully is he getting his @ss in gear and doing it.
Things have not got as far as HA seeking a court order although one resident has apparently been told by phone, on turning down an offered property to relocate to, that if all property offers are turned down, they will 'go legal'.
Hi Hamish, thanks, yes I'd dearly love to own but am not and have never been in a position to.
I was poised to go to the local paper about this but have been advised by above letter writing resident not to as it may 'backfire'. I was told this through another resident and I'm not convinced. I'm still thinking about contacting the paper.
It's difficult to know what to do as we are all individual residents/addresses and also, to some extent, need to act together. With all the interactions and politics that that entails. I'm sitting tight for next few days. Will keep posting on it.*Look for advice, not 'advise'*
