We also paid for the little kids rides inside the skyline place, and also to play crazy golf. We didnt pay for swimming, or Bobs barn because i wouldnt let my girl go to the fair again when the bobs rides where free. I know some of our party were ill on this break, but i wasn't delusional and imagined dishing out money when i didn't really lol...we 100% paid per ride for the fair.
I'm sorry but you must be mistaken. I've been loads of times and the rides including dodgems, mexican hat, Carousel, pirate boat are all free. There isn't even an option to pay on these, no signs, no one collecting money.
You will pay for shooting, win a teddy, hook a duck etc as these are not rides but chance stalls.
As you say Bob's yard is also free but focussed around toddlers. The other 2 Butlins sites are exactly the same.0 -
every time I have been to butlins (which is about 20miles from my house)
i have not had to pay for the main rides, if i was staying there. but the small fairground like games Like shooting or hook a duck, i have had to pay for. and the small kids rides that are inside the main complex you have to pay for. My favourite part was always the pool area, which has always been free.0 -

We were there in Feb and have been a few times over the years for day trips as well. Whilst you're correct that most of the things that you mention are things you have to pay for (which REALLY winds me up!), the actual fairground rides are definitely free of charge - I think you're confusing rides with stalls. There are a few spinny-round things, carousel, pirate ship, kids train ride etc and they're definitely free. Not sure about the dodgems as we didn't go on them.
You do pay for all of the stalls where you can win a prize, like the arabian derby, hook-a-duck etc, as well as the go-karting. You do have to pay for the bouncy castles and bouncy slides, and it's very expensive - not good if you've got kids with you as they obviously want to go on, so you've either got to disappoint or cough up. Don't know why Butlins have to contract these out rather than buying their own.
The little kids rides that you mean inside the skyline place - I think you're on about the ones you insert 50p in like you get outside supermarkets. Yes, you pay for those, but just outside the Skyline there's a miniature fairground with teacups, ladybirds, aeroplanes and a train that are all free.
This won't help the OP much as he's already gone, but might just clarify for anyone else using the thread for info.0 -
Yes, it's as the poster above said....we had a fab time :-)0
