DLA eligibility

Hi All
To cut a long story short around eight years ago I suffered a nasty footballing accident, which resulted in Compartment Syndrome and around 20 so operations to try and fix my leg. This has left me with drop foot and without the muscle I do not have the ability to lift or flex my foot so it has become fused. I have severe pain daily and have trouble walking more than 20 meters without having to stop or without stumbling due to me catching my foot on the ground. Does anyone no if I am eligible to try and claim for DLA as I know there is two parts care & mobility and I don’t think I need any care but the more the mobility aspect?? I’m only 28 and the doctors have told me this will continue to affect me for the rest of my life
Thanks

You may be eligible for the mobility component.dp_skyblues wrote: »I have severe pain daily and have trouble walking more than 20 meters without having to stop or without stumbling due to me catching my foot on the ground.
If you're unable to walk without 'severe pain or discomfort' - then you're classed as unable to walk in terms of the regulations.0 -
A quick google brought this up, might be worth a read then you can decide for yourself if you meet the criteria.

I think it's worth applying, especially if your doctor is willing to support you. There's an eligibility criteria checklist on the direct.gov.uk website with the application form.

Cheers thanks for that, looks like I come in to the higher mobility and lower care but I guess I'll apply and see what they say!
One more thing does anyone know if it is worth enclosing photos in the claim form? So they can see for themselves0 -
Have you tried splints etc. for the drop foot etc?
You can see someone at your local hospital and they can make supports/splints etc. that can make life a bit easier.0 -

Yeah I've had insoles and a brace made, only problem is the insoles where out within a month and to be honest they are not really helping. I'm currently waiting to hear of my specialist again after being refered back by my GP. But I'm not sure really what else can be done0 -

If it is something that is clearly visible then it wouldn't hurt but a report from a therapist like physio would go a lot further (if you have any such treatment)."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
I was also wondering if I would qualify as I have sever arthritis in both knees and need help getting up and down stairs and on uneven ground. I can only walk a very short distance without pain and need help getting up out of my chair. When I went to the directgov website to see if I qualified I was amazed to read this:
12 Do any of the following apply to you?
• You need help with dialysis at home or in a minimum care unit at least twice a week
where you do not receive help from hospital staff.
• You are 100% blind and 80% deaf and you need someone with you when you are
outdoors.
• You are certified as severely sight impaired or blind.
• You have had both legs amputated at or above the ankle, or you were born without
legs or feet.
• You are severely mentally impaired with severe behavioural problems and need help
with personal care day and night.
Yes - Fill in the claim form.
No - You are not likely to qualify for DLA. But if you still want to
make a claim, please fill in the
claim form
Thing is I know of others who get it who don't meet the above criteria? I have never asked for benefits of any kind before, I have worked all my life untill I was 55 and my husband retired so I left work to be with him.
Sorry if this is in the wrong place. When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0 -
Those are not criteria for DLA awards, please link where this is written?“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0

Just read where you got it from, and that question, which is question 12 only applies if question 11' 10' 9 and so on do NOT apply. Basically they are saying if you don't fit into some of the other question criteria then you can only get it on the question 12 grounds.
Look at this here, it is clearer for you:
