good electric toothbrushes brush a lot faster - you're not going to beat 30,000 times a minute.
Except that your definition of "brush" may be completely different from another toothbrush's. Isn't the length of the brush stroke for a Sonicare a lot less than that of an ordinary electric toothbrush, which in turn is much less than that of a manual toothbrush? Again, the figure makes a good headline, but like MHz or megapixels, tells far from the whole story.

  • The best electric toothbrush I have used is the Sonicare brand but I have to agree that the replacement brushheads are too expensive.

I have to say that build quality is quite poor on all toothbrushes. I've been through 2 Sonicare, 3 UltraSonex and 2 Oral-B toothbrushes in the past 8 years. I now use a cheap electric Philips toothbrush bought from Amazon (£14.99) and it does the job. If it breaks I'll buy another £15 brush. I use the electric brush in the morning and a manual toothbrush in the evening.

There was a scientific study out recently from The University of Manchester that concluded not much difference between electric and manual toothbrushes. It is how you brush your teeth that is more important (and obvious too). The report concluded that rotary brushes with small heads are only slightly better than manual brushing whilst the rest of the models are worse than manual brushing. I would say it's not worth buying an expensive toothbrush. If you feel manual brushing is effective then don't change.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Several months ago superdrug had the heads half price. I cleared the shelf. We have enough for several years!

Do they still come with a 2 year guarantee? Mine did and it packed up a couple of weeks before it ran out. I contacted them via their website and they sent me a new one by return.

I was very impressed by the toothbrush and the CS.

My son wouldn't have anything else now.

He has tried Oral B and a couple of others but since using the above for 3 yrs he is very pleased with the results.

He said although the heads are quite expensive, as mentioned earlier, they last a long time if used properly. I also find his toothpaste lasts an awful lot longer that it used to, as he doesn't seem to use as much - Mcleans ice whitening.

Would also add that he very rarely needs any work when he goes for his checkups.

The battery died this year but he was lucky to find some in the Boots sale (complete set) so bought 2 while on offer. They also came with 2 heads so worked out quite well.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I can tell you that I have both the Oral B Ultra and the Sonicare one on my shelf and use whichever takes my fancy. Looking back, I definitely prefer the Sonicare. It gets picked up much more often and my teeth feel cleaner afterwards.

Philips Sonicare Elite HX7351 toothbrushes were £99, but are now half price at most retailers.

Then if you go into your local dental surgery before the end of December, they should have a leaflet on the counter to send off for a free gift:

Send off your till receipt from either Amazon, Argos, Boots, Comet, Currys , Dixons, John Lewis, Waitrse, Sainsburys and Tesco, and Philips will send you either a Ladyshave (RRP £20), Shaver (RRP £20), 4 in 1 Mens Grooming kit (RRP £20) or Travel Hairdryer (RRP £18).

I've just received my requested Mens Grooming Kit and they have substituted it for an upgraded 7 in 1 kit! :T

Offer open until 31/12/06, claims should be received by 31/01/07.

Do you need the leaflet? Instead, do you have the address where i can send the reciept off to? I'll just write a covering letter as i dont think the dentists are open. Is there any other information i need to provide?
