Sygic, copilot or any other proper sat nav software will work fine with no data connection, that's what they are for.

I'm doing the same with Android phone and Sygic MM 10 on a trip later in the summer. I'm with giffgaff who don't do data roaming at all, so google maps was a non-starter.

so, which of these would you recommend? I assume all maps are transferred to sd card for offline navigation? I use Android, does anyone know which is more stable on this platform?

or should i just buy a dedicated sat nav?

Me personally I don't by my purchases largely on internet votes, I have a seperate tomtom unit and I have sygic on my mobile phone, to be honest there is nothing between them.

use Navfree, maps are offline, route calculation is offline, and it's free.

they also have apps for most of the world = you can't go wrong.

(note if you don't have data turned off in settings it will use aGPS to get the first fix which would cost about 1p, to make sure that doesn't happen then turn off data in settings so it is forced to just use GPS)
