Transfer from Talk Talk to Orange

I am currently trying to transfer fro Talk Talk to Orange, basically as the service from Talk Talk is terrbile. Also by Orange seem to have a great offer on at the moment and I can get £150 cash back for switching to them.

However when I called Orange thay said that Talk Talk puts a restriction on the phone line which prevents other companies taking there customers and I would have to pay £150 to BT to sort this out ar get a total new line installed by Orange at a cost of £60.

Is this right? I have had a quick look on the site here and found something abut a MAC code? Is this all I need to un restrict the line?

Any help on this is appreciated.

I was going to say that!

Oh really.... that bad huh?? I was attracted by the £150 cash back from topcashback.

Who would you recommend for evening and weekend calls and basic broadband?

There are lovers, haters and tolerators of all possible providers and it's really a question of individual experience.

Personally (I'll be harangued for this but my shoulders are broad) I have never had trouble with the GPO, British Telecommunications, British Telecom or BT (yes, it's been that long) and, although cheaper line rental and broadband are available, I take the 'better the devil you know' and 'all I really want is reliability' viewpoints.

Having said that, I phone annually to renegotiate my basic broadband price and, so far, have never been unsuccessful in getting half price year after year. Before their pay-a-year-up-front Line Rental Saver became available, I managed to get £3/month knocked off my line rental too - but I haven't bothered with that recently.

Orange are clueless as ever. Your TT line is LLU, so you can't transfer direct to another LLU provider. However you can go back to BT on a 'return to donor', but this requires you to take a 12m line rental conract with BT. Once you are back on the BT network, you can order your broadband with your preferred provider (which I sincerely hope won't be Ornage).
The cost that Orange are quoting you is for a new line install, which is what you'll need if you want to go direct to Orange.

If you really must !!!, according to this you can now transfer from TT LLU to Orange

"Customers switching from an LLU provider that runs its own network, such as Sky (www.sky.com), TalkTalk (www.talktalk.co.uk) or Tiscali, will also be able to migrate to Orange’s service - which uses a standard BT phone line (www.bt.com) - without any cost."

    Sigh!

"Your TT line is LLU, so you can't transfer direct to another LLU provider." - Please provide evidence for this, either industry information, Ofcom or anyone else you care to quote, apart from yourself.

I prefer to take as evidence that you can go from LLU to LLU from an actual ISP - Uno/Xilo

This post on thinkbroadband explains how they would go about transfering Sky MPF line back to either BT WL3 with sim provide for broadband OR to one of the LLU packages they resell, CPW (Talktalk's network) or C&W (Bulldog).

    http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/sky/4017494-sky-has-taken-over-my-line.html#Post4017643

Blows out of the water your other blethering about "you have to go back to BT on return to donor" mantra. Again.

If a small ISP can do it no reason the others can't, you just have to ignore those who say it can't be done and keep looking.

It can be done, technically. But the vast majority of 'big name' ISP's can't be bothered.
There are a few reports on here that people have migrated from another LLU service to Sky, but that's about it.
So for all practical purposes it's not an option for most people.
As you say, some of the small ISP's might be willing to try.

  • After speaking to Orange.. they advised me Talk Talk do have a bar on their phone lines and I must tell them to take it off should I want to change to an Orange Line..

I then spoke to Talk Talk and they advised me they have no bars on my phone line as it would be illegal from them to do so and any provider should be able to take the line over.

I then went back to Orange and got an rude Customer Service Advisor telling me Talk Talk are lying and Orange could not provide me with a service.

I shall defo not be going with Orange now even if I could, however this means I am stuck with Talk Talk and will just have to see what deal they can offer me.
